I'm quite happy with my new Sony Vaio. I realize that there's a premium built in for the name but the machine is fricking solid as a rock, looks good, pretty decent performance, there tech support has been surprisingly good (answered my stupid single click question via email within 2 hours), runs cool and based on reviews on CNet, etc. others feel the same way.encarsia said:Does anyonehave any suggestions on a new laptop

your way out from there
As much as I liked my iBook at the beginning I was a little disappointed in how it stood up (physically) over time. Granted I'm hard on my equipment but nothing too terribly extreme but after just over a year things like keyboard failure, separation of glued parts like the display shell, etc. were annoying. Also a pain in the ass since I had to hunt for Mac versions of the software I have on my Windows based PC's. That said, if I were to recommend a computer to an absolute novice hands down would be for a Mac. As you mentioned the setup is fricking easy as can be, UI is more intuitive then Windows and harder to get fucked over by viruses, spyware, etc.hitrack said:To me it's a no bainer buyin a MAC now

since when? i have an extended warranty with them and itsdr_pepper said:Nothing wrong with LD - but they do vary from store to store. Oh and they will price match. Get the price at FS and then buy it at LD. The problem with LD is warranty. Because they just resell they just offer basic extended warranty where they box up your product and send it away. Your laptop could be gone for a month.
