Not that I love bus and skytrain strikes....but my drive is faster without buses on the roads....just saying.

Problem is if this happens more cars will be on the road. If this strike happens I’ll be driving a family member to and from work. South Van to North Van I don’t have time to play taxi driver. I hope they get this shit settled.

I’m not a fan of driving in Vancouver. I hate it. I only drive my car when it’s absolutely necessary. And there’s other people like me out there who have cars but use transit for convenience. We will further congest the roads and parking lots with our cars. And everyone else who relies on transit for work, school, medical appts, etc will be put in a very bad position.

Um .... I have a feeling you will regret this position come Wed, Thu, Fri next week if you’re on the road. Basically, what Ms Hunter said, no buses equals lots more cars and congestion. Let’s do some basic math. 350,000 daily transit riders at optimistically 3 per car equals 116,000 more cars on the roads. Be careful what you wish for Lo-Ki.

Don't think so....last strike I was shaving 15-20 min for my drive to work...

My heart goes out to those who rely on public transit. Many people cant afford a car. Without public transit they wont be able to get to work, hence make any $$

I sympathize with this lot the most but also those who employ bus riders. No employees, no commerce, no business.
I didn’t drive during the big one of 2001 and it was kind of fun. They’re quite fuzzy but I have some fond memories of walking and eventually pedaling, after begrudgingly buying a bike, to work that summer. It was the talk of the town and people talked more back then. Seeing familiar faces on the morning walk/ride and striking up the odd conversation was a common occurrence.
I don’t know how this strike will affect me on the two or three days I need to drive downtown during the week, but I imagine the city core and parking scene will be a shit show.
It hasn’t been mentioned so I’ll point out that those who rely on car2go, modo etc are about to have that convenience change in a big way.

This is awful and we should be submitting complaints to Translink. Workers got to take care of their families.

I'm being told the best thing to do is submit feedback to Translink online via this form stating your concerns on how then not budging towards the needs of their employees and pushing them to strike is impacting you...

Curb lane should be open. Motorists appreciated that during the strike of 2001.

Skytrain (and buses) should be considered an essential service.
Yes but it negates any negotiation and the union is essentially forced to sign a contract that they deem to be unfair.

What employer denies A Pee break in an 8 hour shift and demands the drivers do overtime? Those are basic human rights that are ignored.

There are 900 open driver positions and that doesn’t count the number who have elected to take early retirement. If they were fully staffed, it would be a fairer negotiation. Translink wants to pour the $ into infrastructure rather than needed employees. The region needs both but there’s no money for both requirements.

They will be forced back to work by Horgan next week and a mediator will be appointed is my prediction.

They want more infrastructures ...but they no one to manned them properly.
Mediator professional...Vince Ready as usual.
If I was a driver...I'd take a leak in the bus after I kicked everybody out...then let them back in.

I thought the big sticking point is wage increase?
