Not even halfway through his first season of what should (or should have depending on the exact diagnosis) been a very promising NHL career and he's diagnosed with testicular cancer. A news conference should follow sometime today but a Boston newspaper is reporting that he has the dreaded disease. I watched him live last year at the world juniors here in Vancouver and at 18 he was dominating. If caught early enough the prognosis is excellent but dammit he's still a teenager. Hope he beats it...

It is a bad situation. But look at it this way:
-If this would have happened a year ago and had been diagnosed at that time, then he likely wouldnt have been drafted.
-Even his rookie contract is more than most people make.
-Playing for an NHL will mean he will get the best medical care available. Im not sure what kind of medical insurance he would have had while he was still in college.

Tragic situation but could be much worse both from a health perspective and a life situation perspective. (Id hate to be a regular teenager who got cancer and was from a blue collar family with no medical insurance in the US.)
