Canucks will lose some good players as many players become free agents. As we know, NHL draft is coming up soon. Who are the good players to pick? Since total payroll for the team is over $70 million, should we let go some overpaid old players and take young, cheap, and energetic players? Do you think the team can bring the cup to home next year?

payroll will make it easier to sign a few guys, as for the draft, i don't think anyone at #29 will be jumping into the lineup any time soon.

I think Salo can be dumped freeing up 3million +, and we should chase Brooks Leich out of Washington to play on the second line with Kesler. A buy out of Samuelson wouldn't be too bad an idea.

A Samuelson buyout would cost 2/3 of the salary spread over twice the remaining term of the contract. In this case, Samuelson has one year left at 2.5M. A buyout will cost 1.67M spread over two years. In the first year, a cap hit of 1.67M (2.5M minus 0.84M buyout) would be saved. In the second year, the cap hit would be 0.84M.

Salo is a UFA, therefore no salary to dump.

If you buy out a contract, how much of it counts against the salary cap?
2/3rds I dont see any reason buying him out though.
He is injured, we have no idea how much of the season he played injured.
Certainly not worth a few hundred thousand it would save.

Canucks will be fine next year, The division is a lock.

I'm afraid there might be too much heartache for the current crop to overcome. What the current crop could use is some fresh injection like an actual sniper, simply knows how to score or an actual real power forward.

I don't want Gillis loading up on D again as he seemed to make it sound as an area of depth he wants to improve. Would be nice to have a stud bigger than hamhuis too.

Increasing 'depth' everywhere only dilutes our talent when we need some more skilled really dangerous players.

Who cares??? I am curious to see who gets bumped with the Winnipeg move (as they should end up in the North West division).

Canucks should win the division, and end up in top 3 in the league standings.

I hope we can get some exciting player with great skill like Brad Marchand from Bruins. Don't get me wrong. I hate this guy, but he is only 5'9", but play like 6'5" with great speed and extremely aggressive. His salary is $600k only and he is a restricted free agent!

We don't need Torres. Glass wasn't playing well last year. I am surprised Salo signed for $2 million for one year since Ehrhoff got a huge contract with Buffalo.
