I thought it would be the two from Newfoundland who were going to bolt to the Liberals, but this is a huge surprise!

Makes you wonder what her boyfriend thinks of this???

Selfish and Opportunistic! Do you think she really did this with the best interests of Canadians in mind! Don't think so!

I always doubted her motivation to run for the Conservatives, given that Magna is a hugh beneficiary of the protectionist measures in the Auto Pact, which runs contrary to Conservative doctrine.

Unfortunately, I think Joe Public in Ontario will applaud her move.

For the Conservatives, they MUST be of a mind that they can pull a majority government in an election, if it is called. Otherwise, why would they force an election with the prospects of another Minority Government, even if they had the most seats? That would be political suicide.

From my standpoint, if an election were held, the BQ would pull another 10 or so seats in Quebec, and I think Joe Public in Ontario is therefore going to be pushed into the relatively safe arms of the Liberals again.

As for Gomrey, I simply don't think it occurs to voters to punish the Liberals for engaging in this theft of money from the taxpayers. I think Mr. Martin has been very successful in spinning this as "that was then, this is now", and professing to know nothing about this. I think for these accusations to stick to the Liberals, there has to be something that can directly be pinned on the current PM, otherwise it will not affect the Voter's minds at all.

AMEN!

If her constituents wanted a Liberal to occupy her seat they would have voted accordingly. This has earned her the honour of being called a self serving cunt whore on an escort review board!

cry me a river

-The Conservative Caucus member just couldn’t measure up.
-The Party whips were simply too lame & mechanical.
-The thrust of party policy shot only empty blanks.
-Opposition became too boring a position day after day after day.

Face it, the Conservative party just wasn’t man enough to satisfy a beautiful woman like Stronach.
To her credit, she ran away for another party, a more liberal & virile party with a humongous unworldly sized cabinet post where she only could be satisfied & understood.

Be happy for her all ye cranky old narrow-minded people with small weenies. She’s getting better orgasms that are more complete as minister of human resources.

Seems to be a common trait of Liberal members (think Dosanjh).

You've gotta love the entertainment, at least. Martin is proving to be one sly SOB. If he gets through the vote on Thursday, it will set Harper back a long ways. His whole "I'm so SHOCKED" at the Gomery inquiry testimony was his whole shot, and he will have blown it.

What's so different now that we didn't know during the last election? What did we assume happened to the money? Exactly the kinds of things that have come out, that's what. The country didn't want Harper then, and they won't want him now.

As a citizen, I'm sick of the whole thing, and just want them to get back to governing. If there was a real alternative to the Liberals, I'd jump at it. Harper, however, is not it. I'll stick with the crooks we've got until somebody steps up to bat that I could vote for.

Tongue firmly in cheek here.......

Okay Belinda, we know that you're reading this. Let's hear your side of the story.

We'll listen, evaluate your statement, and then we'll continue to call you a gravy sucking FEDERAL Liberal pig.

other way?.....as in if she had gone to the NDP or if the tables were turned and she was a liberal and the Conservatives were in a minority position and she pulled the pin to go to the Tory's?
Oh come on, what do you think? If she were a Liberal who'd defected to the Conservatives, tipping the balance in their favour, you'd be singing her praises.

in any situation my opinion would remain the same, she's ONLY looking out for herself and not her constituents or the country as a whole

If she was fundamentally against the Conservatives platform then step down from the party and sit as an independent!

She excels at hypocrisy almost as well as someone else I know!
She was never really on board with the Conservative ideology as Stephen Harper sees it - yet the party didn't mind having her at all when she was considered an asset.

She acted to preserve her beliefs, not to mention the benefits her constituents stand to gain from the budget.

BTW, a sample of some of the reaction from Conservatives (both federally and those in Alberta):

"dipstick - an attractive one, but a dipstick"
"little rich girl"
"I'm pissed off"
"sellout"
"leadership aspirations"

I'm sure those are going to play well in Ontario tonight, after they've been splattered all over the news across three networks.

The Conservatives blew a big one here - if they'd taken the high road and tempered their comments, they might be able to salvage their plan to topple the Liberals. As it stands now, Ontarians (among whom Stronach scores quite high in polls) are even more likely to deepen their negative view of Stephen Harper and the party.

Instead, they decided it was open season for mudslinging.

Paul Martin must be laughing his ass off.

I guess Belinda is the Patron Politician of Prostitutes. She'll get in bed with anyone, if the price is right.

This turn of events may be tragic for those hoping to see a Conservative government, but I kind of find it funny. If Harper had sort of expected this as he claims, why did he not take steps to prevent it. Or maybe he did, I guess pimping out Peter McKay wasn't enough.

Oh, well Harper and his buddies can go home and wash their brown shirts for next weeks rally.

Belinda was never as right-wing as the other Conservatives. She would have fit better into the old PC party. Many of her views clashed with the Conservatives, such as the gay marriage thing. Indeed, from reading the news, the threat to vote down the budget was the last straw for her because she's still in favor of it. In fact, why is Harper voting against the budget when he initially approved of it in the first place?

As for Liberal leadership candidates...Belinda, of course!

Hmmm, there are a few interesting things about this thread.

I guess it shows that Belinda is right to think Conservatives, and apparently their supporters, lack modern views at least on women's issues when you guys call her cunt, bitch, and patron of prostitutes for her decision. What if it had been a male Conservative crossing the floor? Would he be the patron of prostitutes?

Also, if the Conservatives do win the next election, whenever that may be, Belinda was very likely to get a cabinet position considering she was one of the highest profile members of their caucus, so to say she crossed the floor for a Cabinet position in a government that may be out of power by the end of the week not to mention she has plenty of other plum opportunities in the private sector at her feet is absurd.

Since when is a person defecting to another party a women's issue? She betrayed her constituents, party and even embarassed her apparently not so significant other. Had a Male MP done the same thing I would've probably not called him a cunt but a scum sucking piece of shit asswipe dick and he would've definitely qulaified for the honour of being the patron of whores for doing so.

True but unfortunately a Consverative gov't was not something in the cards anytime soon and hence someone dangled the right price in her face (in this case a fairly senior cabinet post) and she did spread her legs and jumped ship.
