By the way, do hotels in vancouver offer "walk-in rate" ?
Yes. Its the same as the "rack rate" and will generally be the highest rate you'd pay.
Of course, there are still places that offer rooms by the hour, but if you're used to staying at suites in some of the city's finer establishments, you'll be sorely disappointed with these "walk-in" places.

Man, I used to think that Winter is the peak season for Vancouver. Afterall, there isnt much to do in vancouver during the summer, isnt it ?
As locals we sometimes get rather jaded and forget that we live in one of the most incredibly beautiful cities in the world. The natural beauty and scenery in and around the Vancouver area is some of the best in the world. Winter is still busy here, mainly because of Whistler, but not as busy at the summer. The other local ski hills do attract a fair amount of people, but Whistler / Blackcomb is one of the top-rated ski destinations in the world and is still the biggest draw.
Vancouver is actually quite a favourite summer destination for a lot of people from the US and from many Asian countries. Also, because the dollar is still relatively cheap for Americans, a lot of companies hold conventions here. Plus lets not forget the cruise ships that come here. While the numbers have been dropping slowly over the last few years, there's still a few hundred thousand people who come through Vancouver as part of their cruise between May and October.
