All I can say is if NAFTA fails under the idiot drama teacher Trudeau I hope it get gets stuck to him like a millstone around his neck come the next Federal election....which should also feature the Trudeau quote of "And budgets balance themselves" after he has run up 19 BILLION to the National Debt not counting the stupid purchase of the assets of Kinder Morgan last Friday....chalk up another 4.9 BILLION for that....and whilst saddling Canadians with a Carbon Tax that will only TAX Canadians who foolishly want to heat their homes and drive to work to make a living...yet at the same time does not lower emissions. How can taxing CO2 which mammals exude after breathing in precious Oxygen ELUDES me especially when all plant life breaths in CO2 and gives back Oxygen. All of those planes/trains and automobiles actually produce Carbon Monoxide....a very different thing.....but I guess it is not as evil as heat trapping CO2.Having said this I am of course labelled a "DENIER" because I am skeptical of the media fed bullshit and also because I want and can understand actual FACTS.

FACT....Canada produces 2% of world wide "greenhouse gas emissions" and this includes the whole enchilada....all of our INDUSTRY which runs from the production of grain/copper/oil/gas/gold/silver/diamonds/iton ore/coking coal/uranium/Lumber not to mention the manufacturing sector as well as the transportation sector(those convenient things that are railroads) not to mention the trucking sector and so on and so forth.

FACT.Canada's Northern Boreal Forrest cleans up 50% of the Worlds "Greenhouse gas emissions due to it's VAST size.

Of course the media as well as the current government ignores FACTS.They prefer fear mongering and scare tactics as well as outright lies.

I think the Trudeau government should stick to the facts, what is good for our economy and not give into US demands. If NAFTA is gone, we will find new areas for our resources and manufacturing. It might lead to Canada be more independent of the states trading block. Go to Europe and Asia. Asia is a big market for natural resources. We can then use the situation to manufacture our own power supplies for renewable energy, eg solar cells, wind turbines. And then sell energy to the States... but wait they have reneged on paying for hydro before..... and we let them get away with it...

Yup according to the facts the Amazon Jungle did the other 50%. Our boreals forest are being clearcut down. Melting Tundra (PermaFrost) is offgasing Methane, which is a much worse greenhouse gas than CO2 and changing the coast line in the Arctic. See W5 documentary.

Japan and South Korea are building ice breakers.... to travel the northern passage..... which is now open up longer in the North.

The Canadian government has to pay for infrastructure all over Canada;and it is needed the most in the northern territories. Improved Ports and policing of waterways, enforce environmental laws in the Arctic, which is very susceptible to damage.

And the US is first followed closely by China for gas emissions. Did you see the Chinese skies during the Olympics?? China is trying to curb its gas emissions, because its people are getting sick from the Air.... Canadian Industry turns around and says it will hurt our profits if we try to go clean air. Sudbury built a taller smokestack, that only forced the air to go another 20 miles outward before falling smog falls to the earth.... The people there think their air is clean because they don't breathe the smog any more.... The politicians who make the laws should be forced to breathe the air, so they really know what the limits should be.... Think of it as breathing from the tailpipe of an ICE engine, diesel will work best, has the better taste etc......

Years ago Volkswagen brought out a new diesel that cheated on the emission tests... diesels smell the worst.

Stricter environmental laws are needed and to be enforced, for companies not complying, the CEO and senior managers if found in violation should go to jail.....Yeah I know how the system works, the managers send out a email stating to follow the rules, then come down to the shop floor and tell the workers to break the rules.... plausible deniability. Maintenance of systems are ignored until they break or cause machinery breakdown. Afterall the plant has to be up 24/7.....

How do you get to the hydrogen economy? Free energy? Not going to happen, governments and industry will lose control of the machinery and the people.....

Have you ever visited or driven by a coal fired power plant?I have done so,it was the Shearness power plant and I visited there because I was making a Saturday delivery on a hotshot after hours. For maybe 5 kilometers proximity the air was hazy at best to describe it.....there was no smoke stack belching black death upon the landscape. In fact the smoke from the BC forest fires that drifted into Alberta through much of August was 100 X worse.

Clime Change is a sham....years ago it was called Global Warming until it was debunked not to mention the fraud that was exposed via Climate Gate.Since the 1960's the CO2 level has gone from 270 PPM to 365 PPM now.....during the warming period of the middle ages the level of CO2 was over 8000 PPM.

The "climate" on this planet has been changing for BILLIONS of years.Species of all life forms have evolved over that time with some being completely wiped out.The hubris to actually think or worse even say that mankind can control the fucking climate on the 3rd rock from the sun is utterly fucking stupid.

This planet deals out natural disasters worse than a masochistic SP who specializes in stuff like that.An earthquake here....a Tsunammi there.....a volcanic eruption/mudslides/forest fires/floods/droughts/hurricanes and so on and so forth not to mention all of the nasty shit the planet gets hit with from outer space and I wont even go on to list those cosmic events.

Taxing Canadians for Carbon will not lower emissions....it is a fucking tax plain and simple....and the GST is tacked right on top of it as it is billed as a fucking "Levy"......just the thing a Tax and Spend MORE Lieberal Government wants.

Back in college in phsyics learned the differences between distance, velocity (distance over time) and acceleration (velocity over time)....

So in terms of the globe heating up, there is a relationship between CO2 levels and rise in temperature.

Look up the hockey stick effect in regards to CO2 levels. What industrialists want you to buy is that nothing is wrong! For hundreds of thousand of years the earth has warmed and cooled, scientists have alot of data on this through core samples of ocean floors and ice fields taken throughout the world (or an average of the world in the past).

What the problem is is the unexpected rise in CO2 due to man-made burning of fossil fuels, which has made the PPM count of CO2 in the atmosphere rise exponentially... this is the acceleration effect of the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere. The hockey stick effect.

So there is an average increase in temperature over the earth. This increase in temp allows for air to hold more moisture, creating bigger hurricanes (storms), floods, droughts, etc, climate in extremes...

Scientist don't know everything, but they are working on it. To their best guesses the temp will still increase, so what to do, decrease the CO2 output from burning fuels. Industrialists are in the trenches to keep their lively hoods (money coming in) instead of paying for new technologies that will eliminate the rise in CO2. In other words they want you to keep sucking the air right out of your ICE....

As for the 8000 ppm here is some further reading....

http://https://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/Carboniferous_climate.html

My problem is if I am breathing approx 370ppm today, what would breathing 8000ppm feel like?

thinking of guy in garage senario, commiting suicide by car exhaust (CO2 and CO)??.....

Isn't the topic of the thread dealing with NAFTA? I don't follow the relevance of your climate change conspiracy theory and your political ideology to the topic.

I call bullshit on the 8000 PPM number. If you have a link to any scientific article supporting that, surprise us. Remember, your whole argument is as strong as your weakest claim.
After a brief research, I could find mentions of 2000 PPM of CO2 during Jurassic period (no humans existed yet), and no higher numbers later. It does not look like the middle ages would be close to that, let alone 8000 PPM.

My problem is if I am breathing approx 370ppm today, what would breathing 8000ppm feel like?

Surprisingly, 8000 PPM of CO2 is survivable for a while. CO2 is not particularly toxic. 8000 PPM is the level at which CO2 alarms are set up in nuclear submarines, link to the research Navy used. Apparently, 5000 PPM is quite normal in nuclear submarines and it is not considered dangerous.
