Too soon to setup a Christmas Tree?

I was listening to the radio the other day and this topic came up where some people have already set up a Xmas tree and decorations. Now, I can understand, although I don't agree with the commercialization of Xmas, I understand stores want to sell their Xmas ornaments and products while it seems that each year, they set up their Xmas decorations earlier.

Does anyone think it's just wrong and strange to set up a tree so early in your home?

I think the only way it could be okay is if you plan a long December vacation away from home and want to enjoy the tree. Certainly in the past, when trees were real, nobody considered putting one up early. And there are still a lot of people who put up a tree only on Christmas Eve, making it a family event because so many might live away from home and would miss the tree trimming if you did it earlier.

I can understand it but I'm against doing anything before Halloween is over, and further, before Remembrance Day has passed. I prefer not to let holidays collide and important events, like RD, be overshadowed by Santa.

I get the US, where they do big hype for Thanksgiving, which is late November, which definitely postpones the Xmas hoopla until a more reasonable date.

Agreed, no need to push Christmas up any sooner, the tree really does not need to go up more than a week or so before the 25th.

This is easy

Holiday lights go up the day after American Thanksgiving. That would be the last Friday of the month of November for those Canadians. Nice thing about this is down in the US we have a 4 day weekend. Then have a chance to recover from Turkey overstuffing and have a 3 day weekend to get the tree and lights together. If you have a artificial tree this works out way better.

Well for me I just bring a tree home from where I work, there are lots! So we are usually putting it up on the 23rd or 24th. My wife already has the house and yard lights up by then and she takes them down again early in the new year. We alternate buying a special ornament to commemorate each year, we have 20 of them now, pretty soon I can get rid of all those old scratched and flaking balls. We always open up one present on Christmas Eve, but I'm such a big kid that we end up saving just one to open in the morning.
As for carols, I sing those all year long...Deck my balls and cock with favours, fa la la la la la, la la la la. :)

Merry everyday to all! ;)

I am a holiday nut....

I am so into Halloween and Christmas. It takes me almost a month to decorate in and outside my house for Christmas and two weeks to decorate for Halloween.
I am a fanatic. But absolutely love it. Every year I have ppl driving by and taking pics of my place all done up.
My kids love to help me out doing it. And in a sense I go back to that inner child in me too.
But I not only do this for my house...hee hee I do this at work. In the sense that I dress up in a different costume everyday of the week that I work for the month of October.
And for the month of December...I have a different Christmas outfit that I wear everyday until Christmas.
I am a fanatic and PROUD of it !!!!!!!!!!
I dont care about the viewpoints of others on the commercialization...I am there to put the smiles on ppls faces.......especially children.

Now for my rant>>>>>>

I am tired of hearing all this crap about how expensive it is to hang lights and other decor. So much is energy efficient nowadays.
And I am tired of seeing blocks apon blocks of darkend homes on Halloween. Because ppl are too damned cheap or whatever to hand out candy. Damn some of these little guys can only walk so far before tiring out. I remember as a kid that you find only a couple of houses not handing candy out. Now it seems more are darkened compared to how many are lite up.

Do I think hauling up the tree right now is out there??? A little early for me but who am i to judge those who do.
I look at it like they are getting into the spirit....why fault them. They are happy.....You all seem to want to rain on their parades.

Hmmm HUMBUG comes to mind. :)

Have a great day :D

Hey I do that too. Every year each one in our family goes and buys one special ornament. I write the names done in a book to keep track of. And as each child of mine that leaves home. Their first Christmas tree will be loaded with every one of their ornaments that they purchased throughout their lives.
I also have their "babys 1st Christmas" ornament, with their pics in them. I think it is a great tradition to start with any family. :) The only sad thing is...a few will break here and there. But I figured, still its cool thing to do.

High five to you hun :D
