Maybe you should walk a mile in our shoes before you judge us, and btw, we have the money too, should we renege (sp?) on chiropractic or dentists appointments because we have the money? FYI if you cancel the chiropractor an hour beforehand you get charged for it! So therfore it's a double standard to say we are "complaining". Give dentists a review board and they would do the exact same thing and nobody would ever accuse them of being on the rag!...
To place your 'profession' in the same category as chiropractors and dentists is disturbing. These are true professions which require years of education and training, and which carry a great deal of professional liability.
What training do you need to spread your legs or give a BJ? Do you pay insane amounts of malpractice insurance to cover the lawsuits should you not correctly get your 'client' off?
Someone needs to get their chosen line of work into perspective. Ilovethemall and GBM simply made some rather accurate observations. Just because you don't happen to like them does not make them mysogynic. You will never get away from last minute cancellations, no matter how much whining you do. It's a part of your business. Rants like yours rub me so much the wrong way.

I take back the mysogenistic comment seeing as I looked it up and it means "hatred of women", and not "unfairness or a double standard towards women" like I thought.

I appreciated your thoughtful post GBM, I do realize there is risk in complaining but I don't know if it deters clients seeing a successful SP like myself or Very Veronica...? What we offer is hard to come by and not many men will decide to not see us because of our viewpoint, but I see where you're coming from.

What I don't like is the double standard here that says women who complain are on the rag, where men who complain are wronged. Aren't we all being wronged equally? It doesn't seem fair, and you are right my most comment complaint as a child was "but that's not fair" cuz I thought life should be fair and it was hard to accept it's not.

All I'm saying is if someone wants to start a thread, sticking their neck out about something that bugs them, do we all have to jump in and say that person is wrong because it's part of doing business? Can't we all just speak our mind and get along? Why do we feel we must discourage anything? No shows bug Very Veronica... big deal! Why not leave it be so the rest of us STW's can also commisserate with someone who understands? Nay saying helps nothing and no one.

Ok, I think there is a bit of a difference between VV accidentally forgetting an appointment and some jackass not calling her to cancel.

In my line of work I regularly attend meetings outside the office. At times, (particularly before I got a palm pilot) I would forget about a meeting or run late to one because of a previous meeting. While such actions are wrong, they are not intended to hurt anyone or inconvenience any one and most importantly, they are an accident.

On the otherhand, some dick calling an SP, making an appointment and not calling to cancel is decision some one made.

While both actions are wrong, one action is the result of an error and the other is the result of being inconsiderate. I would say that the second one is worse.

Lame excuses

I've cancelled but not without phoning, but I have had a few sp's bail on me just because they had a better offer or they'd made enough money for the day met their quota??

Some one please tell me the difference between some one booking a haircut and booking a SP, shit happens, but how many hairdressers do you see running after you if you walk in door ,and turn around and leave? And please no flames, its a thought only :)

volume

The difference is that hair stylists or barbers make their money on volume. If you walk out you are not costing them half or all of their daily income.

Hopefully, your SP sees fewer clients each day than your barber. If not, you either have a lousy barber or an energetic SP

Getting This Thread Back On Track

But then again if I did that, my right wrist would be twice the size of my left one.
Joe, it sounds like you need some financial advice to balance your portfolio. Remember, a bird in the left hand is worth two in the bush. And, from time to time, it's good to divest your holdings and spread around the seeds of your savings. :D

Last minute cancellations may suck, or end up not being sucked, as the case may be, but it's better than not calling at all, and the reason may be legit, too.

Actually, we are not all being wronged equally. The provider of service gets wronged more because the balance of rights is not in their favor - but as I said before, its the risk you take for the money you seek.

Far as I'm concerned, I was getting along with you. I did not really take your mysogyny comment seriously as I've heard that allegation every time a man disagrees with a woman - a common dirty trick. But you apologized, so all's fine. We are having a discussion, and I never called you names and you never called me one - so we are getting along, as far as I'm concerned.

Lol mick_eight, how many times DO you turn around and walk out upon meeting your hairdresser? :D

I do want to make it clear that it is fine to cancel, and we do appreciate the courtesy! I never do refuse to see someone if they have cancelled in the past either, only if it becomes a habit, which therefore moves it from a "cancelled appointment" to a "prank caller". One guy does it all the time and always calls back to say he "got called into work". I mean, how many times do you get called into work?

It is just frustrating to us (as it is in all professions) to have unproductive holes in our schedule....and it's nice to vent sometimes about said frustration.

Go Canucks has it exactly right about volume, if we had 20 clients a day it would be a non issue!

Lol luv-em-n-lv-em I should have said "unfilled" holes.

And Mick_eight I thought you were making a joke and I honestly don't see your point, or I would achnowledge it, but I just meant the first paragraph to you if that clears it up... "Lol mick_eight, how many times DO you turn around and walk out upon meeting your hairdresser?" The rest was just random discourse to all clients about how it's fine to cancel. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

I like being a devils advocate,I live by the creedo`,Treat people the way you want to be treated, I can`t say I have never missed a appointment, because I have ,I don`t often do it. You are in a tough biz and I understand that,I just hate injustice no matter from whomever, and I would rather pull my teeth, then bite my tongue.

Getting back to the topic at hand...or was the thread a rant? "I was stuck in the middle of writing my thesis on the society's inability to own up to their misdeeds, prefering to blame it on some other reason-usually inanimate."

The 3x mantra is the most inane statement on perb IMHO
