It's just bad luck, if anyone think's it was not it' has more to do with his the name (Cooke) if a average player had done that..... nobody would think it was dirty... I played many years of competitve hockey, when you go in the corners, you have to expect to get hit, when your the hitter, you don't want to miss your mark.... your going to angle yourself accordingly...., and you want to pin your mark to the bords, so he doesn't slip by, so you use your legs to pin your mark, also helps prevent your mark from getting a stride, and away fast, these hits happen in every hockey game.
The only point of discussion with the hit, is the ending, when Cooke put his skate down.... now that would be hard for cooke to plan when to put his foot down, and how hard to hit, as the angle and equipment come into consideration also. No chance Cooke did it on purpose. Dam I miss playing hockey, and going into the corners....... (I love the rough stuff!!)
