This thread was accidentally deleted and I've been asked to post it again. I appreciated all the comments made by other posters in the original thread and am taking this time to reflect on the incredible group of men and women who participate in discussions here.
I haven't been contacted again by my harasser since my posts were deleted. If, as I suspect, it's a business rival who hoped to capitalize on exposing me, second thoughts may have been prompted by the very abrupt disappearance of the 'evidence.'
With some hindsight I wish I had been able to prune more selectively as there were many posts that did not include any personal details, but my greater concern was that by monday it would be easy for someone to send an anonymous message to work colleagues with a link to some of the more revealing of my posts.
So, my apologies to all of you who have lost posts yourselves in threads that I started as the entire threads are now gone. The one I miss the most is the one where so many posters explained the backgrounds to their handles. Although yesterday I felt that I would never post again, I have been encouraged by many to keep my handle and simply avoid posting any info that could link Little Alex to my real life.
I feel much more able to deal with this situation having had such support from my friends on the board. Will keep my head down for a while and think about what to do next ... LA
Little Alex Says Goodbye - November 2, 2003
Recent events have brought me to reconsider my involvement here on perb. A lurker recognized me from some info I posted about myself and contacted me by phone to say he was going to out me to family, friends and co-workers. I do not know who this person is on perb and cannot offer explanations to you on why he would want to out me without giving away even more personal info. (Regrettably I do have enemies in my real life and this is probably one of them.)
I have taken the threat seriously and had the Mod delete all my posts so it is not possible for others to read them. For some reason my handle still shows on many threads but the actual posts are gone.
It may be that removing the posts will make it pointless for this person to out me as the personal info I shared that identified me is now gone. However, If I am outed I am prepared to accept the consequences of being associated with perb. I have enjoyed my time here, particularly since retiring from active participation in the hobby in July and made many friends who I consider to be among the finest people I have known.
I will keep my pm function active for a while and friends have my e-mail, but I will not be posting any more.
This is a warning to others to be careful about sharing personal info in our public posts as, for most of us, there are risks associated with being part of this community.
I'm sorry if this is all a bit melodramatic. I felt it was wrong to just disappear and have everyone wondering what happened.
