I said it was a ridiculous law then and I still think it is ridiculous. The City of Surrey is overstepping its powers with this bylaw and It would probably be very easy to fight in court. A professor at SFU who has studied prostitution laws for 25 years has said the same thing.
What he doesn`t talk about, but is an issue that could come back and bite Surrey in the ass is that Municipalities can be held liable for damages flowing from bylaws that are deemed invalid. Since the potential damages that could occur from this bylaw are significant this bylaw could end up costing them bigtime. If they use the bylaw and someone challenges it and wins they could have some lawsuits on their hands.
