The Edmonton Oilers are not Cinderella.

They are a team that had the fewest wins out of the 16 who advanced to the playoffs. The Canucks and Kings each won more games than the Oilers did (ok they only won one more each but still...)

The Hurricanes played laclustre hockey during the last two games, spending way too much time passing and losing the puck instead of shooting. I'm not just talking about the pass that Fernando Pisani scooped from them and scored with either.

Hopefully Carolina will sharpen their game for Saturday and play with some hot and heavy intensity. They've played better than Edmonton all season but because the playoffs are seriously flawed none of that matters. That's got to change but for now the Carolina Hurricanes need to play up a storm so they can win this thing on Saturday.

Its nice that the Edmonton Oilers are bringing the Stanley Cup home, but for the love of the season, I hope its only for one day!

Stanley Cup belongs in Hurricane Country???

Carolina, yes that hot bed of hockey enthusiasm with a wealth of tradition and history for the game. Once again, Lord Stanley is rolling over in his crypt.

Who are you, by the way, Gary Bettman's bastard child?

Sorry, my bad, that would mean Bettman had balls.

The Cup goes to whoever wins it ... great record or not ... good players or not ... hockey tradition or not ...

the Oilers are finally playing the type of game that will keep them in the series ... a couple Carolina players have gone down and if the Oilers keep taking them out then they may have a chance ...

Have you EVER laced up a pair of skates?????

You should stick to something you know something about....like SPANKING!

I don't even know where to start with you’re shit......

OK, here goes.....

YES the Oilers finished 8th in the Conference, and the Canes finished 2nd in the EAST. But, did you know that the NHL schedule is heavily weighted so that you play teams in your division several times. So while Edmonton was battling it out vs the likes of:

-Calgary(who took your fucking quackers to 7 games in the conference quarterfinals). Oilers played them 8 times
-Colorado(who made it to the second round as well). Also played Edmonton 8 times
-Vancouver(who just missed the playoffs). Played the Oilers 8 times

Who’s in the Hurricanes division:

-Atlanta(didn’t make the playoffs), Played the canes 8 times
-Florida(didn’t make the playoffs). Played the canes 8 times
-Washington(finished 14th in the conference), Played the canes 8 times
-Tampa Bay(who DID make the playoffs, but could only win 1 game), played the canes 8 times

So what does that mean?...lemme talk slow.....

The............Hurricanes...............padded..........thier.....points..........total..........and ...........position.........in.......the............standings.................by ........beating............up.............on.................the...............worst ..............teams............in..................the............league!

It's no wonder they finished 2nd in the fucking "L"EAST conference. DUH!

Now let’s take a look at Carolina’s route to the finals:

They get by Montreal in the first round. I wonder if they do that without Saku Koivu’s injury?
They beat a good Devils team (don’t forget, No Scott Niedermayer or Scott Stevens this year for NJD)
They barely scrape by a depleted Buffalo Sabres with 4 defencemen injured and Connolly hurt. Christ it took them 7 games to do that even!
And now, they are up 3-2 on the Oilers who have lost arguably their best player in the post season in Dwayne Roloson!

So, here’s some advice for you…

‘Gahead, route for who ever you want, but try not to bring your vast hockey logic into your posts(cuz you have none!). You can hope all you want for Cam Ward for Conn Smythe trophy(don’t forget he got yanked in the Sabres series). But it isn’t going to a player on the losing team this year, and the series isn’t over!

Yeah something about those Hurricanes

1st they took out Saku Koivu's eye in the first round, and in the process the Hab's number 1 centre, captain, emotional leader, and by extension their first power play unit.

Then they sail past a less than stellar Martin Brodeur.

Squeaked past a speedy and talented Buffalo bunch with a decimated defence core.

Finally with Edmonton's number 1 goalie down and out, they find themselves one win from the cup. And me thinks that's as close as they will get.

Anyhow, what's with you and these obscure American teams? First the Ducks and I see you have now conveniently switched your allegiance to the Crutches. Do you have some friends or relatives assoicated with those teams? Or do you just hate your own country? Stick to your Ducks my friend.

You are bang on Buddy. They BOTH won more games than the Oilers this year. I need your help remembering how many playoff games the Canucks and Kings won this year though. Oilers have won 14 so far this year but I can find any stats on Canucks or Kings for this years playoffs ?????????

Am I looking in the wrong place???????

In early October last year only 38% of 1759 votes in an online poll of Oilers fans said Edmonton would not make it to the playoffs. Only 4% said they would be this year's Stanley Cup Champions. I don't know what similar survey results would be for Carolina but I'll bet nickels to timbits it would be much, much different.

The schedule was out, everyone knew who was going to play whom and for how many games. Goaltending was a problem but so was the Oilers ability to score goals.

A week ago Roloson got taken out by a member of his own team and alot of fans said it was over for the Oilers. Those same people I'm sure that said the Oilers only started playing better after they got Roloson in March.

Both Carolina and Edmonton have played well during the playoffs. Carolina has probably played at or about the same level of hockey that they played during the regular season. Edmonton has obviously played better than they played during the regular season.

I understand the reason playoff hockey is played 1st seed vs 8th seed is to get rid of the riff-raff, the teams that haven't done the job but because the NHL needs to make some coin the top 8 teams from each side get to play for the prize regardless of how far apart their point totals are or how terrible their division mates are. Obviously this hasn't happended in the West this year and what that tells me is that the regular season schedule has to have more playing between all the teams so that when it comes time to the playoffs there is a truer sense of who is great and who isn't.

Carolina has as many Canadians on their team as the next. I was actually hoping for an Ottawa vs Anaheim final with Ottawa winning but since that's not happening I'm rooting for a team that has done well the entire season as well as the playoffs. A team that has played most of their 100 odd games well, not just the last 20.

Go Hurricanes!!

:)

If you are a Sens fan, then it is understandable that you would want the regular season to mean more than it does.

Hope you enjoyed the President's Trophy parade of 2003 :).

Regular season record: Crutches 52-22-8 for 112pts. Edmonton 41-28-13 for 95pts. Most people will tell you that the North East division is a much weaker division, so your contention that the Oilers only played the last 20 games well shows us all we need to know about your hockey knowledge.:)

Any hockey fan knows that there's the regular season, & then there's the Real Season. The regular season is played to determine seeding & who makes the post season, but all those win/loss/point stats don't count for squat in the playoffs.

Playoff games, whether its round 1 or round 4, are won on adjustments and heart. Which team can make the adjustments neccessary to beat their opponent. In a 7 game series, you have to adjust to the team you're playing and exploit their weaknesses. Which players want it more, who's going into the corner to fight for that puck. The 'Canes may win on paper, but they are not winning the battles on the ice.

After 40 minutes its Edmonton 2 Carolina 0.
Can you say Oilers in 7?
Watch Monday night !

That was a long, hard game to watch. Edmonton had WINNER written all over them.

Hopefully Laviolette will stick with Ward for the final game and Staal and Brind'amour and the rest of the team will play with unbridled enthusiasm and energy on Monday.

I am pretty sure he is not going to start Martin "Burger", you are pretty safe there.:) I am hoping they play like they did in games 5 and 6 - OUT OF GAS. Go Oilers!
