Hi!
Just wanted to know if any other SPs have had problems with fake cash?? Someone from perb paid me with a fake 50.00 bill. I'm not sure who it was, but i'm also not sure if the person knows it either. The only thing that told me it was bad cash was the little refectiong 50 was black. I was disapointed to say the least, I will be more careful next time though.
Other SP's: Ever have this happen? and what (besides giving every bill the look over) can i do to prevent it?

To check a bill the refecting 50will change, rub the bill on white paper red ink will come off on the white paper as red, that works on all bills, brown for100, green for 20's.Hope that helps.

I would notice a fake 50.00 if the reflective spot was black, I bet the person who stiffed you would too. I told someone else recently I'm gonna get a sign made that says "Really I'm not a asshole like the other guys" Actually most guys a good people but as we all know it only takes one....

Sorry you got cheated Lisa

Patriot I'm not 100% sure of your method, would not a cheap colour printer's ink come off too???

They tell me the best way to tell a fake is by the feel...applies to more than cash ;-))

Never heard of the color rubbing off - and I've gone to a bank recently to ask them what to look for. hmmm You can peel off the dots, the lettering is raised, the fives have braille, etc.

reminds of a fun story in the news a couple of years ago... A fellow drove up to a drive-thru window at a fast-food restaurant and handed the girl, as payment, a $200 novelty bill. She actually gave him change!! made the news!! (think she had her job the next day??). good grief

what's that? nothing about the color rubbing off?? lol

thanks Grendleaxe!

Just thought I'd would inform you that there are fake $100.00 bills going around right know and they are sooo real looking except the gold label when you turn the bill, should turn greeny and if it doesn't, it's fake. They read that they were made in "1998" Hope this info will be helpful!!!

I know of at least one case where Canadian Tire money was used successfully and frequently in another country (no not by me)

gymnastgirl - yes he too might have been a victim of it. Like i said, im not sure if he knows he even did it.
granny - I heard about that story last year, it did make the news hehe
thank you grendleaxe, m6233, and can't forget oberon,
I actually made an ass out of myself the other day because of my little paranoia (which i've let go) about second guessing money. Paranoia's gone but still have a watchful eye

US Dollars

Once I had a young guy who was very nervous and was paying with 2 $50 US bills which he said he had left over from a business trip but his story didn't ring true. They were brand spanking new and the paper felt too stiff. After careful inspection I decided to be safe and only do a half hour massage for one bill, during which he confessed they were from his grandma. Later I noticed that if I held it up to the light there was a hidden picture of Ben Franklin in the white part of the bill. That was common practice in European money too, I don't know about the euro.

So that's how you tell US $ is good. Canadian money has more subtle means mentioned above, another way is to hold them under a black light but I can only guess what a fake one would look like.

Lisa, I suggest you pass that bill to someone else, like a big corporation who has insurance against loss, like McD's or Starbucks.

An SP I saw yesterday was passed fake $20 bills last Friday, by a client she had not seen before. She spotted it after he left. How many SPs are going to look at each bill, especially from a regular? I prefer the financial transaction to be very discrete, and I think most SP's do as well. I will now have to be more tolerant when the bread is inspected.

I wish all customers would be tolerant of someone inspecting their money too. I might go get a pen at the office store.. that only takes a minute to do.

Lisa, sorry to hear that you got cheated.

But there is a device, not expensive at all, can tell you right away whether the bill is real or not.

Those device you can find in the market.....

You can buy a black light for under $20. When you hold money under it the dots on real money will glow. You could keep one in your bathroom then when you go to "freshen" up before your session you can discretely scan your money.
