All internet emails contain a message header which shows the IP address of the sender's computer as well as the sender's ISP. Depending on the program you are using to browse your email, you can see the headers by selecting "file" and "properties" when veiwing the email.

In a nice wet pussy!
You're wandering into illegal territory and inviting counselling to do so. The Privacy Act in Canada strictly prohibits publication and counselling to obtain information of this sort. If you have a harassment problem with the person behind this address, contact the host (i.e. Microsoft in this case) and provide them with copies of the subject emails. They can then proceed depending on the nature of the offense. You can also take precautions at your end by requesting a change of IP address from your own ISP, lodge a complaint with the sender's ISP, and block any future emails from this address using the Tools available in your email program.

Not true. The Privacy Act only applies to personal information held by a government institution.

Why should a harasser be afforded protection? You are at liberty to out such assholes at any time (within the boundaries of libel and slander law, of course)

The IP isn't going to tell you without a Court Order. Don't bother with Hotmail's abuse@hotmail.com, the IP you want to advise of the abuse is most likely abuse@telus.net or abuse@shaw.ca NOTE that Telus is on strike so it's useless to complain to them right now. When a person at Hotmail sends email it travels from the user's IP to Hotmail to the receiver's IP. The email header will tell you the user's IP (bounce after Hotmail)

The IP must respond to your complaint. This means that they must investigate the email record and determine if you have grounds for a complaint. If you have grounds for a complaint they must advise the sender and if the sender has other complaints, they will disconnect them. DO NOTE that if you have been exchanging harrassing emails, you will be disconnected even if the other person is still permitted to retain their account. This is because a false complaint is considered to be worse than simple fighting.

The reason that it's useless to use the Hotmail or Yahoo abuse addresses is that both are international and not entirely subject to Canadian law.
