Hi everyone,

I need some help or advice on running shoes for me. The Nike air ones I have now and use at the gym don't seem to do the trick. When running on the treadmill at the gym I go to or go for small run outside, my feet starting hurting abit.
I go to standard sport stores in mall and really dont get alot of help in this dept. I can seem to get a good pair for me.

My question is.............. Can someone suggest a good place Dowtown vancouver to buy good running shoes and what runners are good for jogging??

Please and thanks.

Running shoes

Try rackets and runners. I don't know if they are in downtown but there is a store on oak just past king edward. Keep going north along Oak street and it is on your right

Go to the Running Room. The shoes are abit more expensive but the service is great. They'll actually spend time with you matching you with the shoes you need depending on your foot type and your activity.

Agreed, they actually 'fit' you to a shoe and not 'sell' you a shoe. It might be a bit more expensive but the comfort is worth every penny.

+2 for the running room.

Not really that much more expensive.
They really do custom match the shoes for your feet, and even body type.
I don't mind paying a saleman for his help, when he really spends a good deal of time and effort with me.

These other shoe stores like sportchek, you are likely to get some 16 year old to find your size, not much more.

Forerunners

4th and Trafalgar I think.

They will let you take the runners for "test runs" outside and if you don't like it after a week or so, they will exchange for something else so long as they aren't dirty from trails etc.

I am a bigger guy and swear by Adidas

And take your old runners in with you so they can look at the wear patterns.
If you pronate or supinate (your feet rotate), they can recommend shoes with appropriate soles.

Forerunners or the Running Room. New Balance are good shoes for running.

I agree with many.... Running Room without a doubt.
My fave brand is Mizuno... brand is really specific to your feet, and what works for you.

I find that New Balance shoes are too wide fitting, but this probably isn't an issue for men.

Your feet are the most important thing to take care of... proper footware is crutial. Injuries often arise from strike pattern. (plantar fascitis for one..)
It is worth investing money in a more expensive pair of runners. A good pair will cost at least $120.

Once you find a pair that works, stick with them! I keep buying Mizunos every 8 months.

Running Room is my first pick. They're all over the place and pretty good service. I've found that there's some variations with different shoe manufacturers. My picks (based on my foot type - moderate pronation):

Asics
Brooks
Nike (Bowerman Series)
Mizuno

There's also:

Run - In
Rackets and Runners
Peninsula Runners
ForeRunners
New Balance Store
Kintec Footlabs

Rackets & Runners - best shoe store in town!!!

I took a pair back three times because they weren't right and they exchanged them and encouraged me to come back and keep trying shoes until I got the right fit.

Great service and excellent knowledge!!!

Hi everyone, I wanna thank everyone who relied to my question. The running room seems to be the best choice by most.

I will check out the running room first and then compare to a couple of other mentioned.

This is a must do for me.

Thanks again!:) :)
