Hi HN,

I was wondering if there was an overall incubation period for STDs transmitted through oral sex. I had visited a so last night who performed bbbj and 69. I was wondering how soon symptoms would manifest and how soon I can get tested for reliable results.

Thanks

Hi Munkey

The main STI that can be transmitted with a bbbj are gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Syphilis can also be transmitted but is not common in BC.

If you get symptoms go to a clinic straight away otherwise it is best to wait 2 weeks before getting a urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Most gonorrhea and chlamydia would show up in a urine test after waiting 2 weeks. Syphilis is not common in BC and usually shows up after 6 weeks in a blood test.

Routine blood testing for HSV is not usually offered. Testing is done if someone comes to the clinic with a HSV sore.

HPV testing is not currently available in BC.

Have a look at the chart we have on our new web site it provides a list of common STI with information on how long you need to wait for an accurate test as well as other information.
