The problem here is that the petition has to go further. C-36 makes it illegal for someone to pay for sex. All johns can be charged. So in reality the petition is shit (what the petetion is asking for is limited). Sex work is pushed under the carpet, little kids can't know that it is happening etc etc...
The reality is you can't legislate morality.....
the petition is asking for a full repeal of the laws.... what more do you want? the law has all kinds of provisions which cause problems for sex workers....it's not just sex buying which is illegal.... hosting ads is illegal....being near a church or park is illegal....communicating is illegal.... the body of the law is filled with debunked fake stats and assumptions ... in direct conflict with the code of conduct which governs the work of parliamentarians and senators ... in conflict with 4 codes of conduct in fact.....
there is a charter challenge under way... look for it in the news this week.... as the government have been too cowardly to do their jobs.... these laws were to be reviewed after 5 years it's been 7..... there may not be any choice but to go down the court road ...... again .....
this petition is important, it could force the government to review the laws for constitutionality and then repeal as they are (obviously) not constitutional... court takes years..... the government could act now .....
