No Kidding

I have noticed that to when I go camping at a provincial park and I'm biking, a jogger, a roller blader, another biker , or even someone walking. There is always a hello or a nod. I have thought the same thing, why do we pass people on the street and not pay attention to each other.
I have been to Halifax a few times and there I must say are some of the friendliest peeps in Canada, I remember walking out of the airport and everyone says hello, walking down the street was the same. Made me feel alittle weird,, like do I know you? All of Canada should be as friendly as the Easterner's,,,Holly

I say hi to everyone.

Sometimes people are too surprised to reply, but usually I get hello's back.
But then again, I also really like to tell random people that I think are really attractive that they're good-looking. I generally don't want to actually talk to them, but I think it's fun to let someone know.

Give me a couple years and I'll lose my Nova-Scotian charm and become jaded and bitter like all you Vancouverites. ;)

When I used to live in Eugene, Oregon I was kind of taken aback at first by the fact that everyone on the street seemed to say "hello" (I'm not talking downtown but in the neighborhoods). After having grown up in Winnipeg and spending time in other cities, it wasn't something I was used to at all. Very refreshing and I quickly got used to it. It's been years since I've been back to Eugene so I don't know if it's like that anymore but it sure ranks as the friendliest relatively big (second most populous city in Oregon after the greater Portland area) city that I've ever lived in.

You've got less than a couple years, my dear. Enjoy it while you can cause it rubs off on you faster than you think.. It's in the air, or something.:D

Half kidding.... (Half not). :p

I totally thought the same thing when I started hiking regularly a few years ago! Weird huh?

It probably has to do with being part of a like minded community. You share an interest in the outdoors and exercise with other people on the trails. I think it's like when motorcyclists give other motorcyclists the wave as they pass on the road.
