The season is approching and the teams are in camp.....
so what do we think about our new line up.
It will have a new face forsure,
Moholtra is great on penelty kill and we sure needed that and great face off man.
a couple heavy weights on D
a new born Torres looking to redeem himself....this is the only one that i think is a bust and bad pickup and like the rest of the changes,
glad to see Bernier, johnson,Welly , and a couple D pillons gone.
now to get the scissors out and cut that C off of Lou's jersey.

There never has been a Canuck player that didn't play better on another team.
Trevor Linden, Sergio Momesso, Cliff Ronning, Martin Gelinas, Marcus Naslund, Donald Brashear, Greg Adams, Kirk McLean.........just to name a few.

Certainly improved over last year, and contrary to members here, they werent bad then.
I think this is they year we are better than 3rd in the west.
We have the worst division in the west, with no other good teams.
Calgary and Colorado might be lucky to sneak in 7th or 8th

I can think of 1 actually and that was Rick Vaive. He played 1 year with the canucks and was then traded .............( which IMHO was one of the worst trades the Nucks ever did )...........to toronto. We traded him and Derlago for Tiger williams and Jerry butler!! I shutter everytime I think of that.
Vaive went onto having multi years of 50 + goals.

Otherwise you are right but in all fairness, back in those days players usually stayed on teams until their due date. They didnt have salary cap issues or outrageous salaries to deal with.

When a player got traded back then he was either old or injured to the point that his best days were behind him. That still holds true in todays NHL, however, it now doesnt happen as often with recovery methods they have nowadays.
Back in those days professional hockey players were treated like endentured servants.....Harold Ballard of Maple Leaf lore was a total asshole who expected everything and paid them shit in return.

And no...I am not in favour of disgustingly over paid contracts to hockey players...when it comes down to it..the whole thing with contracts got blown out of proportion whe Eric Lindross (under acheiver) signed his rookie contract that paid him more than Gretzky/Messier/Coffee/Yzerman/Lemiux and the list goes on...soon as he signed for 5 million a season as a rookie...every proven veteran in the NHL had their hands out wanting more money and it was a snowball effect...which lead eventually to the lockout....after that the bar was lowered and it has since recovered and is again gaining upward momentum.

Personally I think NHL contracts should be signed with set targets such as goals scored/assists/+ - and the like...with bonuses tied to that contract if the player exceeds the stipulated contractual agreement.

As for Vancouver trading away talent...*cough*...CAM NEELY....*cough*

Remember Pavel Bure? Great as an amatur, came to Vancouver - none of the other players would pass to him, traded to Florida - 5 goals in one game, scoring champion 3 times as a Panther, played in the Olympics - 5 goals in one game.

As I said, hockey players in Vancouver get Vancouveritis. Something in the corporate setup makes it so that they all under achieve their past records and the records they achieve once they have left the Canucks.

It even extends to the Coachs. Coach comes from the Kings, best he can do is to direct his players to cripple the other team's players. Completely unable to get the players to play as a team.
LOL...that's a pathetic example as he had three 90 pt seasons in his life, one here and two in Florida. Scoring champion **twice** as a Panther NOT 3 times. Don't let the facts get in the way of your statement though:p
