I was previously very wary of pitbulls since they do have a reputation but I'm slowly coming around:

Ive known 3 pit bulls, all 3 were gentle giants. Sadly they have been inbreed which has caused some of the dogs to have mental issues. The thing is when a pit bull bites a human it makes the news mainly due to their reputation and the lock jaw . When a poodle or weiner dog bites it doesn't make the news. Its all in
how you react with the dog. Ive been bitten 3 times by dogs , all 3 were small dogs.

Going by anecdotal accounts, postmen often report the most issues from small dogs. Their owners don't make the effort to train the dogs since they think small dogs are harmless. Going by pure stats though, pitbulls have an awful reputation:

Unfortunately, the humans are the problem not the dogs. Of course, extra care and training is much more important when it comes to animals that can do more damage

There is no lock jaw. This is a complete myth. There is however a wide jaw, meaning high bite pressure, and the will to hang on, if the owner raised it in such a way.

A real wide jaw.....makes for a huge grin.
