Not getting found out by your SO - risks, tips & tricks

My biggest concern is getting found out. If I think about things rationally, I can't explain why I continue in spite of this risk. Which means I guess, that I am not rational very often. I have not been found out yet (as far as I know) but I've had some worrying situations and close calls.

For my first adventure, I went to see Julia, who was in the West End at that point. There was no street parking and the only parking garage nearby only took credit cards. I had no good reason to explain parking in that lot on that day, but I took the chance.

When I booked the appointment with Julia, I used my cell phone. Since my SO pays the bills (I am organizationally challenged), she got a statement with Julia's number on it. I didn't know that local calls would show the phone number on the bill. Since I rarely use my cell, that month Julia's number was the only number on the bill. Fortunately I saw the bill on my SO's desk (though it had already been opened) and destroyed the page with the numbers.

Unfortunately by the time I discovered the bill, I had used the phone for subsequent arrangements, so I had to monitor the mail every day until the next bill arrived.

Since then I have not used that cell for other than normal calls. Recently I decided to get a hobby phone (since many of the better SPs wouldn't pick up payphone calls). I was able to find a place to get a prepaid phone where they were willing to falsify all of the personal information. So I now have a phone with a legit unblocked number that is not traceable back to me. The only risk with that is how to explain the phone, if the SO ever finds it.

I am aware of lots of other risks of discovery and some ways to mitigate those risks.

If anyone has stories along these lines, risks they have considered, strategies to deal with the risks etc, please contribute them. If you know of a FAQ that covers this issue, I'd be very interested.

A prepay phone, they are untracable and are cheap enough at 7-11

If you are looking for a prepaid phone that actually has options, Telus is the way to go

As for the SO not finding out, some of these might work. If you pick your girl up in the car, and she rides in the passenger side, don't change the seat distance. Somehow read thats one of the things women can look for.

ANYTHING strong scented or out of the ordinary of what you would use. Stay awway from it for obvious reasons.

Keep it on the down low!:)

I thought Fido's Pay as You Go doesn't check your ID or keep records of any customer's information.

Could somebody PM me the numbers the phone companies with untraceable numbers use?

I dont want to see people with untraceable numbers for security reasons.

Thanks
I love that phrase ... "for security reasons." You hear that so much these days, but no one ever seems to be able to describe exactly what threat set a given action is a countermeasure for. *snicker*

While you can try make a correlation, NPA-NXX assignments are made to the carrier and their internal assignment schemes can be pretty random. The published NPA-NXX assignment lists only point you at the company and then they pull a few out of their butt when it's time for someone to get a phone number. If you read the terms of service on any phone, you'll see that you don't have any rights to a particular number, and that they can change the number if they see fit. By extension that means they can assign phone numbers in manners that make no sense to anyone but themselves. Google for NPA-NXX rate center and you'll get a few high-level lists...

I guess I'm lucky.

I'm a nerd who works with computers all day.

I'm new to SP's, but have had mistress' in the past. Some tips that I use:

1) Home PC:

Create separate user accounts on your pc at home. Add a password if you wish, but that might raise eyebrows.

For your web browser, make sure that it is set not to store cookies or keep a history. Opera has a great feature that makes it so it doesn't store anything. I have a hidden installation of Opera that I use that doesn't appear on her desktop and the directory is set to hidden (for my eyes only).

As was mentioned previously, make a "poon" only web based email account. I use "hushmail" because it's name is appropriate in my mind ;)

2) Well, after step one has been read, my second tip is to not do anything from home. If you can avoid it, do it elsewhere, even a cyber cafe. I'm lucky because I can do it all from work.

3) Credit cards. Get a separate credit card. I use CIBC because they do not send detailed statements. Even better if you can choose to only have electronic statements (like RBC). My SO knows I have another card, but I tell her it's for when I want to buy her a gift and don't want her to know.

4) Cell phone. I'm with Rogers and I opted not to get paper statements to my house. My bill is automatically deducted from my credit card. No paper work, no questions.

5) Remove all paperwork. Make sure to have a shredder for emergencies. Make sure, if you rent a hotel, that they do not send a receipt to your mailing address!

6) Don't drive to an appointment. Park you car somewhere safe and out of view; preferably near work. Take a taxi, they're cheap and anonymous.

7) Cash. Slowly take out a few bucks here and there and save it up. Put it in your sock or something :)

Phew, just some tips that have kept me alive to this day, though I do regret buying my SO an 8" Chef Knife the other day :(

If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

Getting Caught

well, at one point I did tell my SO.... she didn't yell and scream or nothing, we talked about it for a bit and that was that. I think she understood where I was coming from. we seem to have always had a relationship where we can pretty much do whatever we want.... not that the other wouldn't be hurt by it. but we understand that we make our own choices. If I go visit an SP after work. and she tries to phone me, I'll call her back after I'm done and tell her I was just looking around downtown, and that's the end of it. she's not real great at the computer so I don't even worry there. she pays the cell bill, but doesn't look at every number and ask who it is. we each have our own bank account so she doesn't question where all my money goes.

I know some guys really have to be careful, but you're absolutly right, if you can't deal with consequences and the guilt gets overwhelming, get out of the hobby and re-think your life... cause all the grief to hide it and the guilt isn't worth it.

I am sure the phone companies will change their policies once a few women have been found with their throats cut by the owner of an untraceable number, but I dont want to be that woman:)

I'd rather lose some business. Sorry, can't put it more bluntly what i mean by "security":)

Thanks for the info anyway. I will be more careful.
I bet they won't change for a few murders. Maybe they'd change for a lot of murders, a few huge drug scandals and another 9/11. In the meantime, they'll take a little bit of bad publicity, but there's too much money in untraceable phones. Look at the US: 10 times the population of Canada, probably 10 times as many crimes (duh), and prepaid phones are still a dime a dozen. The shareholders would slaughter any carrier who tried to dump anonymous prepaid.

A few easy markets:
* guys who don't want to be leaving phone records for anyone else to find.
* people who'd like to buy someone else a phone as a gift
* travellers finding themselves in a country where their existing phone doesn't work
* SPs who don't want to be giving out their real phone number or racking up huge subscription bills.
* Law Enforcement and Private Investigators. Love 'em or hate 'em, they do have a place in society, you may need their services one day, and they sometimes need a new phone number, quick.

While I have no firm evidence to back up my suspicion, I'd guess that you're more likely to be injured wandering along parts of Hastings or Kingsway after clubbing one night than you are from someone ostensibly looking for a discreet rub 'n' tug.

I'm not faulting you for taking security measures - I'm hoping to provoke everyone who is taking security measures to make an objective assessment of their exposures, and make an honest examination of their precautions to see whether or not those precautions are doing any good or if they're just feel-good posturing. Of course, a really good security plan involves CCTV cameras, never having a moment alone, never having random visitors and having a squad of SAS officers on overt and covert protection detail, but where's the fun in that.

Back on topic: if you're running win2k or winxp, turn off the friendly login screen, and require users to type their username and password at the login prompt - don't let one user see what other users exist. Create a separate computer account for your shady activities, and delete and recreate that account every so often. If you spend some time setting permissions properly, your shady user will be completely sandboxed and it'll be easy to wipe that out. Turn on encryption/privacy for your users - this requires that you run NTFS. Run antivirus/antispyware. Don't do anything other than send email, read perb, or maybe chat a little from your shady user account. The last thing you need there is for some bit of spyware to be leaking your activities.

For more tips on securing your windows machine and preventing one user from messing with another, check out the NSA Security Configuration Guides: http://www.nsa.gov/snac/downloads_os.cfm?MenuID=scg10.3.1.1

I used to have a Motorola cell phone, which I put two cell accounts on it. It's a bit tricky, but it was doable on the old Motorola cell phones. Don't know if it is still possible with the current line of phones. When I needed to use it for hobby, I just punch in a few codes and switch to the other line. Google for Motorola phone phreak, and you may be able to find out more. This way, don't have to carry two phones which is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Yah, that is why I have never fallen into the "joint account" trap. I trust her with her money and I don't care how she spends it as long as she doesn't care how I spend my money.

1.) Get a postal box. Usually around $10/mo. Reroute your mail to there.
2.) Get another computer, put it in another place other than home. I then RDP into it from my home computer and do all my poon surfing from there. No trace and nothing to have to clean up. I also keep all my sensitive files there.
3.) Get VOIP service that allows you to set the phone number (on each call) you are dialing out as. Benefits: #1. person on other end of line sees the phone number you intend for them to see (including long distance numbers), #2. calls traceable only to that phone number, 3. your cell history shows only the VOIP line as the line you are dialing, not the SP you are calling, 4. no need for a second cell phone and having to hide it, 5. the service packages voicemail with it but is password protected.
4.) Get a password protected portable harddrive. These connect via USB. No access to the contents of the harddrive without authorization.
5.) Get a new bank account, preferably an online one that has no need to know your residence so there is no danger of being contacted there for any reason.
6.) Set up a company (if you know how to do it, incorporation costs are only $360) and set up a bank account for it, get credit cards for it, even get a small office somewhere with a couch bed. Use that company to do all your transactions. Tell your SO that company is either your new project or you are employed by them. If it is your project, eventually start siffoning funds to it... ie: get a personal line of credit on your home and send the funds to the company account. Spend from your company account so that the SO will have less reason to examine the expenditures. Use the company as the reason why you have to be away or be gone on trips. Forward the company phone to your cell phone so she thinks you're in the office. Dial her back using the VOIP service masking as your company number so she thinks you're there.

Where's the fun in that? I think a part of what I love most about it is the sense of adventure. It's all about the thrill of doing something naughty/forbidden.

I think, overall, just use common sense and don't use your little guys brain when planning things.

Now, I just thought of another thing I do. I always stay late at work or go to the gym after work. This way, I have built a routine so that my SO doesn't expect me home until 8-9pm most nights. Whether I actually stay late or go to the gym is another matter. I do come home sweaty sometimes ;)

Hello

I have been seeing proffessional people exclusively for the last 10 years. Some know about the board most don't.I think you need to be ahead of your game.If someone gets caught sorry to say(STUPID) comes to mind. The world is not that big espescially "Winnipeg" I guess you either have the discretion or you don't have it.The men that have most to lose are the one with the money.Always a risk, but if your smart never tell a secret because once it's told it's no longer. My tip for the day is "STROKE IT" a Humble Opinion if you don't want to get caught.;)

Interesting Post...some strategies seem awfully complicated. The more things you do the more likely you are to slip. I've got 5 rules that I use and that's it.

Don't poon in home city (Calgary)
Always pay in cash
Always use hotmail account
Always use $5 calling card from Macs
Set window washer to run before shutting down computer

I have broken the first rule only three times in about 50 or so encounters. Mostly because of reviews from this Board. ;)

I had made the mistake once and forgot to lock my laptop when I was on Holidays with my GF at a tropical destination. I came back to the cabin after a morning of beer guzzling and fishing to find my laptop sitting on the counter with a picture of one of my Rio favoritas with my cock in her mouth and a date stampy of two months earlier when I was supposed to be in Houston, TX on business not Rio de Janeiro, BRazil having my knob polished.

Of course i denied that it was my dick in the picture (lol) and that I was anywhere near S. America at that time. Unfortunately she had found many more sets from various other trips and ha made the decision to make my life miserable!

Lesson learned: I lock my computer even if I have to take a piss in a hotel room that i'm staying in by myself!

Phone Calls

I have had many phone calls with women on the other end of the phone.I do not recognize the voice "SORRY WRONG #".I stick by that per say the S.O. found out about the phonebill. You bet the kids pay the "PIPER".I am overprotective espescially when kids are involved (Will not do the midnight cruise in a Mercedes Convert) when offered. The grass is not greener on the other side.Always more baggage to deal with the other women.MHO;)
