I've been watching CTV news for awhile now. One thing that I noticed is the news feeds. You have a reporter from Winnipeg reporting on something in Israel. You have the reporter from California reporting on an Washington DC incident. Etc, especially if its outside Canada.
You don't see CTV picking up other networks news feeds as often.
Where news used to come on the TV, news now comes on the web, thru facebook, intagram, and many other social media places. This is where the majority of advertising is focused nowadays.

Has the quality of the news in Canada gone down?

I listen to global for local news,
but for national or international its cbc bbc or reuters
the coverage is bad unless its local, or it is too biased

Generally, all the private (not-CBC) Canadian networks rely completely on US news networks for their international coverage. They just figure it's easier to buy the rights to show someone else's feed than get stories themselves.
If something big happens, like Hurricane Katrina, they might send someone temporarily there to bring special reports, but that's about it.

Same here.
Global for local; usually CBC for national and some international; even there I get sick of it sometimes.

For the rest of international news, I like BBC and RT, to get a different perspective.
CNN is only useful for detailed coverage of US elections, but otherwise they have become as dumbed-down and hysterical as Fox. Even BBC has gotten worse. All of them seem to be gravitating towards the same stories with the same attitudes and same conclusions.

On television in Canada, the Mother Corp CBC is the best resource IMO. Sure it's funded very well by our tax dollars but bar none, CTV and Global etc just can not compete with the amount of made in Canada reporting. The private sector networks do need to show profit to their owners Rogers et al. Most of CTV and Global's news is from other organizations which in the end really just makes them part of the supply chain rather than actually reporting a "made in Canada" news source.

That said, I would not take any tax dollars away from CBC nor should the Americans remove support from PBS. In this day and age, it's important to have a viable, healthy fifth estate to keep the Govt of the day in check.

Harper tried to dilute the CBC's influence by removing financial support as is #45's attempts with PBS to the South of us. Let's not forget that #45 has called New York Times, Washington Post "fake news" while blowing his horn in support of Fox News.

A good unbiased National news source is important to all of us.
