I know some people who suffer from migraines smoke marijuana for pain relief but in my case smoking marijuana actually triggers my migraines. So while I have smoked on a few occasions I quickly lost any interest in smoking pot.

I get a big kick out of comments like the one from Magnus. How horrible pot is - distroying brain cells, distorting reality, tearing families apart, etc. As people stagger out of the bars, ending another night of destroying their liver, distorting reality, tearing everything apart, etc.
I'm not against drinking alcohol, don't misunderstand me. I just have no tolerance for hypocritical opinions.
And I've never seen two people that were stoned get into a fight. They wouldn't remember what they were arguing about and would probably end up going for pizza instead.

Here's a thought for those fond of conspiracy theories:
Marijuana will never be legalized.
War = money
If the world was allowed to legally grow and smoke pot, world peace could be achieved. "Were we fighting? Wow, man. Sorry 'bout that. Hey! Check out my new shoes! Want a chip?"
Yet consuming alcohol is not only legal, it is advertised and promoted. "Were you looking at my girlfriend you fuckin asshole? Yeah you were. You wanna go? C'mon, lets go!" (unless of course it is that short lived stage of "I love you man." But like I said - it is short lived and at any moment could erupt into another round of "wanna go?"

From "Middle Class Gangsters" Matthew Good Band

Wasn't looking at your girlfriend
Didn't touch your Mustang
When I was
In the parking lot
What don't you comprehend
Well I'll speak slowly if your on something
Or faster if your not

I'm with Saffire on this one. I've been smoking pot on and off for 40 years, my kids smoke it, many of my friends smoke it. While I wouldn't claim it's good for you, it's no worse for you than the cigarettes and alcohol that the authorities push, and has far fewer adverse social effects. I'll point out that during my many years of smoking weed I've managed to earn degrees from 2 universities and continuously held responsible executive positions in the work force. But please don't legalize one of the few remaining bastions for the small enterpreneur.

Your place or mine?
I've tried it a few times and it wasn't bad experience. Last time I tried it was 3 years ago but after that it was on to other habits and no, not the drug habits. Saffire, I agree with you about the misconceptions of Maryjane and that there are worse legalized habituates out there. BTW, by your writing, you seem very spirited and fiesty in your arguments.....I like that!

I respect anyone's opinion not to try or smoke anything. I just don't like hearing a speech about how bad it is from a person with a beer in their hand. For the record, I haven't smoked pot in ages. Might, if the mood and situation happened to give me the urge, who knows.

Just because something is legal, it doesn't mean it's good.
Just because something is not legal, it doesn't mean it's bad.
For example:

It is illegal for a man to give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing less than fifty pounds in Idaho

There is a law on the books of TENNESSEE that says a man must run in front of a vehicle that a woman is driving, and, that the car may not go faster than five miles an hour!

In Devon, Connecticut, it is unlawful to walk backwards after sunset

In Denver it is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor.

There is in fact an Illinois law that prohibits a number of things, one of which is a public erection, and another one of which is nude dancing. The prohibition against the public erection has never been challenged in the Supreme Court, but the prohibition against nude dancing has.

For more....

Good post(s) I've never smoked (anything) ok maybe the odd cigar with a good Whiskey but only one or two.... Just never hppened for me... My drug of choice has always been booze, I'm lucky, I'm a quiet drunk. If I was not I would surely have been killed long ago...

I have however met way more than my fair share of violent, biligerent drunks! So I whole heartedly agree with you... smoking a bit is certainly no worse than drinking a bit and probably a bit better... There are several studies recently that say it is not really all that bad for you... I have enough vices however with booze, women and a few others :)

Obviously I have no problem if those around me smoke (one girl I still see now and then smokes pretty regularly, she is actually pretty fun when she is just a BIT high)...

Now a days I drink way less but probably still too much and sometimes for the wrong reasons...

As far as my friends, most are like Alex, they use to but I can't think of any that still do on a regular basis...

VM alcohol is a drug :)

I've smoked pot for over 10 years. I smoke everyday, pretty much in the evenings to relax but sometimes during the day.

I initially chose not to drink after seeing what it did to many members of my family. Now, I'm a devout non-drinker (imagine that, an EI guy who DOESN'T drink his face off all the time:) ). The little bit I did drink back in high school didn't sit well with me (vomitting and hangovers). There are many social problems stemming from alcohol (as with other drugs), but for some reason I rate marijuana lower on that scale, maybe because neither I or my friends have ever fallen into traps such as stealing money or pawning belongings.

At an impressionable age, my friends just happened to be stoners. I'll tell you one thing: weed doesn't do much good for your reproductive system, especially Little Willy.

When I visited my favorite a couple of days ago, she had just smoked a joint to get ready. She was especially horny and responsive. Thats how I remember it working back in the '60's. But I have known some potheads who became rather addled after years of heavy use.

It's nature's way of saying high

All Hobbits smoke pipe weed. It's why we're so good natured. It's also why we eat six meals a day (when we can get them) -- we're munched. But smoking dope is considered genteel where we live. Why do you think they call it Bag End?

Some say that the Big People have laws against the leaf. But they know that the laws are made by politicans to protect the cigarette and alcohol monopolies. Hobbits like a good brew from time to time too. We like all the finer things of life.

I'm surprised the "I never tried it" crowd is still the largest single group in the poll...

I've never tried Marijuana (or anything else like that). I have nothing against people who do (although I feel sorry for the addicts). I don't smoke cigarettes. I'm a light drinker.

Why??? Because I save my $$$ for pooning and other activites :).

Non-pooners who dosen't drink or smoke anything will read your post and think they saved even more $$$ for other activities (such as gambling {*sigh*}). It is clearly a case of "What's your poison?"

LA, just curious but in the psychedelic phase of your life, did you ever try MDMA (Ecstasy). If so, has the drug evolved since you experimented or are they pretty much the same as when you tried it? By evolving I don't mean pressing fancy logos on the pills but rather trends, purposes and so on.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

The main difference I found between LSD and E is that with E you don't get the visual hallucinations. E induces a euphoric state of mind that makes user "open up." But I have very limited experience with LSD/Mushrooms.

Taking a page from the gun lobbyists, "it's not drugs that kills people, it's people that kills people."

I never understood why anyone would want to destroy their braincells doing that crap. I've seen too many people turn their lives and families upsidedown because they wanted to distort reality.

So no... I've never done it. No urge to either.
I think you have heard too much misinformation put out by people and organizations with hidden agendas. Some people are so desparate to impose their morality on others they will grasp at straws to prove how dangerous pot is. In order to prove that marijuana causes brain damage they exposed rats to THC concentrations 200 times more potent than what most people would be exposed to. When they tried a concentration that was only 100 times more potent it didn't cause any permanent brain damage. In what instance is a person going to be exposed to this concentration of THC unless they eat a brick of hash.

Many studies have shown that even heavy, long term pot smokers regain their normal brain function and IQ if they cease using the drug.

If I had a hidden agenda I could perform a study that shows alcohol is nearly 100% fatal. All I would have to do is inject high enough doses of alcohol into the bloodstream of rats as to cause alcohol poisoning. The results of any study or experiment can be manipulated so I would take the results of any study used by the anti-drug crusaders to prove their points with a grain of salt
