I know I am late to the party but finally got myself an iphone X. After the notorious updates to the old phone (with intent to purposely slow the old phones down), I had sworn that I will never buy another Apple product... but I did.

So far this is my impression:

For:
Sleek design
Thinner
Bigger screen
Clearer Screen
Face ID- works even in dim light. (in the middle of the night, the light of the phone itself was good enough to recognize me). it works from many angles too.
Longer battery life, but mind you it is still very new.
Camera and flashlight shortcuts on the lock screen.
Advanced camera features.
Right hand, left hand keyboards.
Wakes up when picked up. (I think my old phone didn't have it, I am not sure)

Against:
Only two options in terms of color
Only two options in terms of memory
Heavier: not by my much though, but I could tell it is heavier that other phones.
Pricier.
They tried to use every possible bit of space as screen even around the speaker. The little notch on the top of the screen can be annoying... kind of.
Good News Bad News
Metal edges- They are too smooth so you need to have a case for your phone.
Fast charging - I have not tested it, but its also very expensive.

It works slightly differently because there is no home button, you have to swipe up and also side ways to browse/close open apps. So there is a bit of a learning curve, no big deal.
I am sure there are many other features that need to be explored but so far my conclusion is. I am happy with it except my biggest complaint is the price.

Recommend: Yes Repeat: I hope not. :)

Feel free to add your experiences.

I opted out of the X and decided to just get the 8. I wish they had more options at this point.
1. I prefer the 6s for the headphone jack as I cannot use the apple earbuds and the adapter takes a hell of a lot of music quality away.... on the other hand listening to the iPhone 8 with it's surround sound speakers is pretty damn swell.
2. As for the screens, I absolutely adore the new screens... but I find it hard to hold it without touching the screen with that hand, making it confused as to where I am trying to touch it.
3. The charge is nice (although, as you say, mine is quite new still)
4. It is even heavier so I can't imagine the weight of the X!
5. I like the face recognition feature on the X for sure but I think that is the only thing I am missing out on....I am not a fan of huge phones and find the 8 to be even too big when it has a case on it

I gotta say that I wish there were more options, like back in the s,c and so many different memory and other options were available... on the other hand, for apple to invest more into quality of one type is also a wise choice on their part. At the end of the day, I am grateful for everything I have and definitely don't need to have better things than my neighbours. I'm a minimalist and feel like I really went over the top on the apple products I have.

Just wondering if the Networks are subsidizing this phone yet?

Also was there decent selection of cases available?

Apple's price for unlocked is C$1500+. I've read in the trade papers that sales for X have been sluggish and rebates may be available 'soon'.

I'm still trying to get my head around a phone costing the same as a notebook.

It really baffles me about smart phones these days and how people constantly buy the newest/latest/best.A cellphone is a convenience really but not anymore it seems.People have to constantly connected to the internet for crapulence like twitter/facebook/snapchat etc. These days it has progessed to the point that the newest bestest phone is pretty much a status symbol "I have an Iphone X so therefore I am better than you" and funny enough if you drop the thing it gets smashed.

The other week the battery in my Blackberry Classic died and lord knows I cant swap it it by taking off the back cover do I had it replaced and it cost me $50.The phone was 3 years old and served me quite well and I did not want to pretty much chuck it in the garbage and get a new smart phone....had to wait for 40 minutes for the battery replacement and 2 days later it had a charging issue which got solved easy.

I remember when the I phone first came out....I was at a car club brekky and I got seated across the table of some guy who just hit retirement and decided to "embrace technology" and for 30 minutes I had to listen about what his I phone could do.After 5 minutes of being talked AT after my brekky got placed in front of me I said "would you mind shutting up about your phone and let me eat my brekky in peace"......that shut him up fast LOL.

Personally I look at the idea of cellphones in general in that they are an electronic leash.I have mine because I use it for work and I mean I literally USE it for work......outside of work with regards to internet it is used a phone.

Last night I realized it has another drawback. Well, it's more like good news bad news kinda thing.

iphone X has only one port for charger and well as head phones. I honestly don't care for it really. For me it is more like a bad news. Firstly because now you have to have a different kind of head phones, or carry the adapter if you are still using the old head phones. Thanks Apple for not charging extra for that. Secondly.. and I guess more importantly, last night I was watching something on my phone and realized the battery was low as well. But you have only one port!!!

So you can't charge it and listen to anything on it simultaneously. I am not sure how the wireless charging works but it doesn't come with the phone so one will have to pay extra.

Networks no longer subsidize phones. You must upgrade your 2 year plan so you end up paying for the phone over 2 years, then in perpetuity as you have to upgrade your plan again in 2 years.

I did not buy it via my network (Rogers). I just got it from the Guildford mall location.
I did not even look at any cases. I got it for free from someone. It is an Apple case. The semi-transparent, plastic kind that goes on the back. Yes I heard the sale is sluggish. I suspect it is the price combined with the fact that notorious software updates that slowed down previous iphones have something to do with it.

I've also ditched the cords and have gone with bluetooth headphones. Such freedom without that damn cord.
I have broken a few phones when my arm catches the cable & the phone flies to the floor.
So dual plugs not a big issue for me.
I'm only on a 7 at the time, not sure if the X or an 8Plus is the way I would go. Getting old & can't see and my texting skills are useless.

And in the grand scheme of things Steve Jobs is laughing in his grave as all of these zombies continually buy new smart phones with each and every model brought out which is pretty much at least once a year...gotta have the newest and greatest.....FFS that is worse than paying income tax.

I just scratch my head over this idiocracy.Truth be told it is like trying to keep up with computers and flat screen TV's......buy the newest and greatest and 6 months later it is out of date.20 years ago the "Plasma Screen" was the big item and a 27 inch Plasma Screen cost $25,000.......nothing but buyers remorse if the damn thing still hangs on your wall when you can buy an 84 INCH LCD high definition TV at Costco for less than 4 GRAND right now.

You can scratch your head all you want. I know it is not cheap but I don't think you realize that technology is changing very fast and this trend is not going to slow down any time soon.
You can not look at a phone just as a phone. Just think about the things it comes with:
Calendar
Internet
Email
Clock
Flashlight
Games
News
Documents/Spreadsheet
Notes
Reminders
Limitless number of very very useful apps
You have your bank account on your fingertips.

What am I forgetting here....... ummm
oh yea.. there is a phone in there too.

Yes things were very simple 20 years ago, and even simpler 40 years ago. But then people also rode horses instead of jet planes. Choice is yours if you want to stay with it or keep on riding horse back to work.

I am not one of those gadgets kind of guy myself but I sure enjoy using them whenever I get a chance. I needed a phone so why not get the latest.

iPhone X sales are quite poor and production has all but stopped. That really says it all about the device. :twitch:
I think it says more about it's retail price.... the device itself is good.

The price has a lot to do with it, but not as much as you may think. While you might be say the device is "good" others would say otherwise and it has it's share of issues not related to the OS. Additionally, many complain that it simply looks smaller than the 6, 7, 8 plus.
Have you used it yourself? :) I have never used 7, so I can't comment on it. I got my SO an 6 plus.. but found it too bulky... it was hard to text on it.... so I returned and got a regular iphone 6.. she loves it .. so do I ..

You can not compare the size of x with plus sized phones.............. plus sized phones are plus sized phones........... in regular size, I think it is VERY good... like I said, apart from the price .. I do not really have any major complaint.............. yet. :)

I love my X. Worth the price 100%. I actually prefer the Bluetooth headphones. Not having to worry about a tangled cord is pretty nice! I like the sleeker design in the absence of a home button. And the photo quality can’t be beat.

My understanding is that iphone sales have been slumping because Apple has become less innovative, yet they continue to demand a premium price for their products, and they haven't really developed anything revolutionary in a number of phone generations. The X was really just a catch up model to try and give Apple users the screen experience already enjoyed by android users (size and screen quality). Samsung actually manufactures the screens for the Apple iX. Apparently the ipad will continue to use Apple's shittier screen technology because Samsung doesn't have the production capacity to produce them for Apple. The watch was a complete bust.
Things aren't looking great for Apple and we know how quickly things can happen to tech companies when they stall.

The contract on my 7 is not up until December. I’ll probably get the X S or whatever they call the 2018 model. I always prefer to wait or a 2nd release on radical phone design changes.

I got the iPhone X when it came out. There is a bit of a learning curve but it has some great new features, more powerful, and faster. While Apple is more expensive, it is less susceptible to viruses, malware, hacking. The screen size compared to the overall size was one of the principle reasons I went with the X over the Plus. I have not had any issues to date. I was a fan of Blackberry due to security at one time then went to an iPhone.

MacRumours indicated three new iPhones will be released this year.

I was looking at MacRumours and their reviewer gave the nod to the new Samsung 9 over the X.

Personally, I wouldn't be switching over to android again. It just doesn't work with all the other things I like about Apple - iCloud, all your devices are automatically networked and it's the same thought process with their products. I note the Samsung has its own OS on top of the Android?

i'll never buy an iOS device again... pure planned obsolescence. and like most things... phones are at their peak, there's nothing else we really need them to do. but Apple can always make sure that the phones stops working using an OS "update".
