Hope you guys dont mind me putting my 2cents in. Went there yesterday to the BP at Surrey Central. Around 2pm in the afternoon, place was pretty dead. Waited for what seemed like forever for someone to ask me if I wanted a seat, and then was shown my table. Looked over menu, for what they where offering was too much $$ the whole time I was thinking GEEZUS, I could have had a HUGE bowl of Pho at Pho Tau Bay (148th@108th) in Surrey. I Guess I should have went there anyways:rolleyes:

In my opinion, Boston Pizza is an over-rated franchise with over-priced food items;) .

BP is never great. It is sometimes "good". Their pizza isn't terrible, but is way over priced. In larger cities BP just plain sucks for food, service, you name it. In the smaller towns where these are sometimes the main restaurant, they are in their "good" rating. I find their pasta soggy and their pasta sauces very American'ish. Very sweet and sugary tasting.

Smaller, local pizza establishments are usually much better with service and food than Boston Pizza:cool:

Tony's Pizza on 112th ave in Edmonton is the best hand tossed thin crust pizza I've found in Western Canada. I no longer live in Edmonton but I do make a point of stopping when I am in town.

Funny, I was going to say that Tony's Pizza on Pembina Highway in Winnipeg is the best in town. They use wood-fired ovens, so the crust actually has flavour. It's also very inexpensive. The place is a real hole-in-the-wall, and is easy to miss if you're picking up, and you can't eat in anyway, even if you wanted to, which is unlikely.

Boston Pizza is not bad, as far as chains go. It's the best of a so-so lot, IMO. They're opening up restaurants in the northern USA now, under the name Boston's Gourmet Pizza. I think they had to add the "'s" to "Boston" because of trademark infringement concerns with Boston Traders, a well-established US restaurant chain.

I've had mixed feelings about BP, and after reading your post I think I know why. You really hit the nail on the head here! When I was a kid I lived in a small town where BP was really the only casual dining restaurant around (there were a couple of fast food places that my family never went to, as well as a couple of fairly fancy places that we also never went to... it's a good thing my mom was a good cook) and we went there every now and then. I loved it. My family loved it. Since moving to Vancouver, I've gone to BP a few times, but I've been largely underwhelmed by the food there (although I do recall having a pizza there not too long ago that was actually pretty tasty, and their nachos are always decent).

I have had poor food and service in several Calgary, Regina, Edmonton, and Winnipeg BP's. I've only had one bad meal in a small town BP. To their defense they had a chef wanted sign out front in the parking lot. Probably should have walked away then.......... The one's in the small towns are always cleaner and just better looked after. The owner/operators care as their customers are their neighbors. I think that's true for a lot of small town restaurants.

The only other time I'd do Boston Pizza is for late-night post-drinking eats. There's one in downtown Edmonton that's usually open til 4 AM on weekend nights.
