what a day today. I couldn't get to work because of the convoy truckers. Heres a messenge to those truckers. "Get the Fuck out of the road".

Go protest somewhere else, not on the road. Why does commutters have to pay the price just because of your salary and fuel price? We all pay the price of of high fuel.

You are blocking the road, even piss everyone off. Horn at those truckers and put your middle finger at them.

They should get fine for causing traffic jam. Theres no reasons to block everyone who try to get to work.

Most CEO's are well aware that trucking is a vital part of our economy. To say that no business could survive without some form of trucker supporting it or it's people is true.

Getting them off the road will eliminate a massive part of the supply chain.

Fixing the system would have far less effect on everyine's bank books.

I agree. Although i wasn't anywhere near the traffic jam.

If they can make a difference by protesting then that would benefit us too. --- Kev

What does this have to do with blocking the public from going to work? Everyone can protest or go on strike but don't do it in the middle of the road. They're blocking all the commutters from getting to work. This is a selfish move done by those truckers. Trust me, if you are struck in one of those traffic, you will know how it feels.

Be like everyone else, go on strike but don't block the road. Carry signs and stay off the road. It will not help fuel price from going down.

Um, so... how exactly does this protest lower the price of fuel?
Its a voice. If you don't say anything then the goverment thinks that their actions are okay. And their not. The price of gas is outrageous. Someone needs to wake the goverment up.

My only concern to this type of action would be if medical or emergency was delayed because there where hundreds of trucks blocking the road. --- Kev

It wasn't intended to lower fule prices, but to get the truckers raises to compensate for the high fuel costs and maintenance to their rigs.

You are one smart guy. Everyone else is such a fool, thinking that it will reduce fuel price.

They need more money to cover the fuel or maybe even the government could kick back some of the fuel tax to them. If they don't get what they need, you can forget about going to safeway to get some vegs or fruit that you might want, you will have to go down to california or mexico yourself to get them.

Its traffic jam today, to get the public to even notice what they do and the government only listens to the public not the truckers. I would rather have a traffic jam today, rather than an industry that can't afford the fuel so they cut back on repairs to their trucks. I was caught in the traffic jam today, but I am angry at the paperpushing idiots in government more than the truckers.

instead of sticking together and selling their services at a reasonable rate the
trucking industry has lived by the "we can do it cheaper than them " rule for years and its finally catching up to them.trucking companies have cut every corner possible from driver training to equipment maintenance to boost lagging profit margins because they dont have the balls to stand up.
the worst part is that i have to put up with morons that took a 2day(if your lucky)truck driver course behind the wheel of a 62,500 kg poorly maintained piece of shit all because the industry has devalued its services to such an extent that it cant afford to hire or retain properly trained professional truck drivers or to properly maintain equipment etc.

When you go into any store and buy shit you need to live, or just for your damn pleasure, how do you think all that shit got there? By the god damn trucks, that’s how. So what, you were inconvenienced for one bloody afternoon. Big fucking deal. Meanwhile, these poor guys are loosing their jobs, going broke, and having trouble putting food on the table for the wife and junior. We need depend on people to haul shit across the country, and I sure as hell ain’t willing drive back and forth the country like that, so I appreciate the fuckers that do.

I was driving up Hastings East bound when I passed all these guys. They were peaceful and respectful. They kept to the far right lane, and they didn’t block intersections or anything. The media blew it all out of proportion like they always do.

Based solely on observation, I think east/west long haul in Canada is by train. It is the cost of long haul trucking from California and Mexico and into the interior of BC. So it is the cost of fuel in the US that is driving up costs.

I credit truckers as having the same business smarts as airline executives. Both going broke while they are running near capacity. How stupid is that?

The best cure is to let the market place drive the badly run business out of business. Subsidizing their fuel costs or provide airlines with subsidies, is bull shit.

If the cost of imported lettuce is too high because of trucking costs, then local growers will figure out a way to produce it year round.

Let the best run business survive and prosper, let those who failed at running their own business work for the guys (and girls) who did not.

My dad is a trucker and he is constantly compaining about how the company pays him a flat rate with no compensation for gas and maintenance. And for those who don't know, maintenance on rigs is incredibly expensive. Thankfully dad's was a heavy duty mechanic, so he does most of the mechanic work himself, but parts still don't come cheap. Nor does gas. Some truckers are complete morons and don't know how to drive (I've seen this mostly in the Greater Vancouver area) but most are seasoned veterans of highways and main routes. Trucking is vital to the economy, and like everyone else with a driver's liscence, there's good ones and shitty ones. I think they should be paid more to help cover gas - which according to my dad, and his route, takes up nearly half his income. If truckers piss you off so much invest in a cb radio, and when one's hogging the fast lane at 50 kph, get on the radio and ask him to move.

The trucking problems started when the government decided they would no longer subsidize railroads. (good decision) But continued to subsidize highways by not charging enough gas tax and licence fees to make them pay for themsleves. General revenue has been used to trade blacktop for votes for years. I don't blame the transportation industry for using trucks vice rail, its cheaper because Joe taxpayer subsidizes them. Start charging the trucking industry for the maintenance and building of roads capable of handling their big trucks, and bulk goods companies would go back to rail.

Charging the true costs to all users of the highways would also negate the requirement to subsidize mass transit. Yes, everyting would cost more, but it would be more than offset by the corresponding decrease in taxes.

Phew, I sound like a "Conservative", but I have always maintained that I am only a "Social Liberal".

dude you are delusional the railroads are the biggest governmental money pit in the country.the are subsidized by the taxpayer in every concievable way.trucking pays huge amounts of money to build and maintain highways, way more than their fair share.the reason why industry uses trucks is because the railroad couldnt deliver a load on time if their lives depended on it.trucks are by far the more expensive mode of transportation but by far the most reliable and will stay that way until the govt pushes the railroads away from the money trough.the government not charging truckers enough for tax and licensing!that statement is laughable, you obviously dont have a clue how anything in this country gets from point a to point b.

Actually no...alot of manufactured or consumer goods travel by truck. It is mostly raw material items, like lumber or coal, or parts for factories back east and extremely large items like cars or trucks that travel mostly by train.

They even bake bread in Ontario and ship it out by truck to BC. It's only 3 day travel time from Toronto to Vancouver.

As well, whenever fuel costs go up, the govt collects more in taxes which is to their benefit. If this money was going all back into roads, and road construction, etc, that would be great, however alot of this money ends up in general revenue which is why alot of people are unhappy about it.

I wish Canada had better rail service, period. Look at other countries on the planet...the USA, Europe and Japan all have superb train service by comparison. If CN and VIA Rail are still Crown corporations then I can understand why they are such clusterfuck operations. I once took VIA from Edmonton to Vancouver, and it was a 24 hour trip...it only takes half that time by car. Once upon a time, one could take a train between Edmonton and Calgary but not anymore (although there's been recent discussions about building a bullet train between the two cities). Just imagine if we had express train services between Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary that was quick and cheap...we pooners could spend a day or a weekend in each city to visit our favorite out-of-town SPs.
