I have been checking out travel web sites.

Travelocity and Expedia.

Are there any other sites out there that may be better. Where one can get
good deals.

Anyone with experience in doing this. I have booked through Expedia.ca before
with out much trouble.

All the sites are pretty close. If you use Hotels.com - there is one big difference in that you can cancel the reservation should anything happen. With Expedia - it is pre-paid.

Also - if you are not too picky - you can always go to a site like Hotwire. The catch is you do not know the hotel name (just the star rating and the amenities). They always have great deals so I would recommend that site if you have your dates confirmed.

I once got a 4 Star there for $90 per night at the Seattle Pan Pacific. Don't bother with the downtown Seattle strip clubs (Deja Vu) - too expensive and the girls here in YVR are better.

Expedia is okay, but if you have any problems, you have to deal with Expedia and not the hotel directly. I stayed at a 5 star hotel, had a towel in the bathroom with a blood stain on it. I complained and the manager was going to comp my room until he found out that I booked through Expedia. I called them to complain and they did nothing to rectify the situation. If you can book direct and get an ok deal, it is definitely worth it.

If you know what hotel you want to stay at, try going on to their website. Sometimes they have prices that beat expedia and the other discount sites.

What I do, for Vegas anyways.

Find out who is having a good deal on expedia or whatever.
Just to sort of pick which hotel is the best deal for that time.

Then call that place up directly, tell them when you want to book, and that expedia has it for $xyz. Usually you will get a better deal, or if not a better room. Last time I went to Vegas, the place I stayed wasn`t willing to reduce the price, just match it, but told me they would ensure I got a room on the 24th floor or above. I think using expedia you end up with the shitty rooms.

Priceline has always given crazy deals.
Usually works well on weekends tho (Fri to Sun).
I've gotten 4 star hotels for less than $70 before in major cities (SF, SD, Seattle, Calgary)
Hotwire is a distant second.

The Wet Coast
Grat room rates online

I have had great results booking though Asiarooms.com

Although the best rates are mainly in Asia they do book rooms in Europe and North America at fairly good rates as well.

I managed to book rooms in a 5 Star hotel in downtown Kyoto for less than $100 CDN

Another interesting site to try is Hotwire.com Good rates but you don't learn the name of the hotel until after you have booked.

There is a trick. Book a package and they tell you the hotel. From there - you can pretty much figure out the "unknown" hotel by comparing the location, star rating and amenities.

I have used Trip Advisor in conjunction with Hotwire. You can usually figure out what hotel they are offering by comparing the ratings and the ammenities.

I use Priceline and have always gotten pretty good deals. I use biddingfortravel.com in conjunction with PL to get an idea of what to bid on where I am travelling.

www.Hotwire.com

is the best for quick deals on 4 and 5 star hotels anywhere.. Best rates.. just you don't know exactly where you are booking until you've booked. Ended up an Opus once, the Wedgewood and the Wahl center hotels other times.. it's excellent!
