CA is offering a hiring bonus for ethnic ladies according to their most recent hiring ad in Monday Mag. I personally think this is unfair as caucasians get no hiring bonus. Granted ethnic ladies are requested oftentimes, why should an agency set them apart from everyone else? What do you think? VOTE!
 
15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

Affirmative action programs exception (2) Subsection (1) does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

If CA can prove that ladies of a minority ethnic background are disadvantaged in the escort industry, they could then argue that their bonus is simply to level the playing field and would be exempt from the Charter of Rights under the affirmative action programs exception.
If in fact ladies of a minority ethnic background are not disadvantaged and are actually in higher demand (or equal) than non minority ladies, then the bonus must be to increase profits and is therefore discriminatory...... :confused:

I give hiring bonuses all the time to my special regular who BLS & BBBJ's me. She knows I"m low risk and I don't think she is doing it much [bonus is big! LOL]... So, is that descrimination?

It's a market-driven industry, supply and demand. If the demand is there and the supply is not, the vendor will pay extra in order to fill the demand, simple as that. One cannot compare it to other industries or jobs, because in this circumstance the ethnicity itself is what is on the auction block, whereas in most other industries it has no bearing on the quality of the product. It's not right or wrong, it just is. Sorry to put in such cold terms, but at it's most basic, that's how I see it.

Life IS unfair

Zeddybear totally understands what is going on. Now I think that those who oppose it also understand what is going on, but just don't want to admit to it.

To those who don't like it, just let it go and be happy. Many things in life are unfair. Have you ever been to China? There, white people always get great jobs in big companies because it boosts the company's image. They get paid many times more than the Chinese locals. Is that fair? It's the same thing happening there. But it happens because somebody is willing to pay up. As long as it is not coming out of your pocket, I'd be happy if I was in your position.

Morrigan, I bet that some sp's out there thing that it's unfair that you get so much flexibility in your life by being an indy. You can create different packages and let people upgrade or not. That is pretty smart of you to do that because you can capture people who are willing to pay different amounts of money for different levels of service whereas the agencies can only stick to pretty rigid rates. So you actually have the ability to tip the scale on your side so that it is "unfair." That is the competitive nature of society that we live in.

On the other hand, do you want to know what IS unfair? How we get treated by the government, politicians and their cubical nerds get plush jobs where they are able to spend as much as our money as they can, and balance out the budget by increasing our taxes and cutting back on social programs. THAT is unfair. We are basically stuck with a government once we elect them, no matter how they screw us up. THAT is unfair. Glen Clark gives it to us up the @$$ on the fast ferries, and gets to retire on a fat pension. THAT is unfair. We can't do anything about it because the rules favor them. There is basically no competition, so they get to do whatever the hell they want. THAT is unfair. Now Gordon Campbell has to pick up all the trash that Glen F'n Clark left for us, and Gord is portrayed as the bad guy. THAT is unfair. Do you think Gord wouldn't want to give out free money and spend like crazy Glen so that he would get re-elected? Gord is actually my hero for being courageous enough to try to fix up this mess. Anybody else would have sat back, and told us everything was alright, and spend like F'n Glen until it was too late. So long live Gordon Campbell and the Libs! Sorry for digressing, but I just had to get it out.

I wonder if professional models for magazines get paid more/less depending on ethnicity.

The whole idea is supply & demand, if the demand for girls of non-caucasian ethnicity is higher than the supply, it drives the price of the service offered by those girls up. You might say it's unfair to the caucasian girls as they don't get the "bonuses" that non-caucasians are getting, but look at the issue from the other side of the fence, if the business is making more money from non-caucasian girls than caucasian girls, why shouldn't they be paid more? To do otherwise would be exploitative as the business (ie agency) is making more off of the non-caucasians without any further compensation.

Just some thoughts....

Thank god for the Charter of Rights

After reading different peoples opinions on discrimination it makes me happy that Canada does in fact have a Charter of Rights that protects people by law from discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability. AND it does this REGARDLESS of market demand, life being unfair, personal opinion, current trends, 'good business sense', or the public 'not giving a rats ass. Now Im not going to deny that in some industries discriminatory practices don't happen, nor will I deny that sadly it's often just accepted as 'part of the business' but it still doesn't make it right. It's discrimination even if it turns a profit!
With that said I will give you all something else to chew on. The 4 busiest escorts we have ever had working for us is as follows: blue eyed blonde, dark eyed asian, green eyed blonde and a green eyed brunette. Kinda makes CA's bonus appear non discriminatory....or does it? Now Ill be darned if that dont just go 'n make this thread all that much more confuzin?!?!?!?

Actually, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in general, and section 15 in particular has no application here. The Charter applies only to governments or agents of government. It does not apply to private or commercial relationships.

OTOH, provincial Human Rights legisation would be the vehicle for any complaint based on racial discrimination.

Isn't this really a "supply and demand" issue? If clients are willing to pay extra for ladies of a particular origin, why shouldn't the ladies prosper accordingly? No one is holding a gun to any SP forcing her to work for an agency with such policies.
 
Seeing how the BC Labour code states that employment practices cannot be discriminatory as described under the BC Human Rights Act, and Provincial Legislation cannot be discriminatory as described by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, I beleive we are splitting hairs. Personally I dont think CA had any malicious intent. The point I wanted to make was irregardless to whether CA's bonus was unfair or not is that, IMHO, profit and market demand in any situation is no excuse for discrimination. A poll might be fun. Stay tuned!!!!

Caucasian women are in very high demand and are paid much more than Asian women in Asian countries due to their uniqueness. This is not only true in this business but many mainstream ones.

How is this different than say Victoria, where there is a relatively small ethnic population compared to the majority. Men like to meet women who look different than themselves it seems and vice versa. Eg. the allure of black men to non-black women, or how some asian men prefer caucasian women over asian women. I recall someone saying they dont want to have sex with someone who looks like their sister!

It's unfair. It's also unfair that young hotties can charge more than old uglies. In many cases smart people can earn more than stupid ones, that's altogether unfair. People who do good work can earn more than people who do poor work. Unfair. It's unfair that some are healthy and some are sick. It's unfair that some are thin and some are fat.

You've come to the wrong planet if you're looking for fairness.

Exactly... what is the big deal here?? If customers are knocking the door down for a certain type of lady, why WOULDNT she get a bonus? Is it descrimination to charge more for a certain lady? The topic is a NON ISSUE, who cares?

Next SU will be expected to hire fat old ladies instead of young hot ones. I got news ladies... put on 20 lbs and 10 years and you'll see some real discrimination!

I agree with BilboBaggins,if you want a completely level playing field maybe all the SPs could join the UFCW or CUPE unions. That way nobody gets paid less, and the best and brightest aren't paid more. Like dairy farmers, the SPs would be given a quota of sessions they could perform,not to be exceeded. If a girl reaches her annual quota by June,she would not be allowed to work until Jan first of the next year. Any additional demand would be evenly divided amongst less popular SPs.
