So, there is a debate raging in my household. Dark chocolate or white chocolate? They would rather die than eat white chocolate. Others if, given the choice will always pick white chocolate. I told them I have a group of the wisest people who will settle this debate. Who is right? What do you say Perb friends? I figure a group of people like yourselves who know passion and chocolate is always associated with passion will know the Answer! Please help!

White chocolate is merely milk chocolate produced without cocoa solids. As cocoa solids are what define the flavor known as "chocolate," I do not personally believe white chocolate to be a true chocolate. Now, if it's not chocolate than what is it? I do not know. Mockolate? Practically speaking, it's white chocolate, in the same way that almond milk is called milk despite not being extracted from a mammary gland.

I'll go a step further and say that chocolate as a whole is not candy, it is confectionery. Chocolate fudge is candy made from chocolate.

For me, a nice cold chunk of high cocoa solids dark chocolate beats them all.

Good white chocolate is best but very hard to find.
Most white chocolate is sickeningly sweet, Lindt is like eating a sugar cube.
Tobler, Terry's and Laura Secord are good.

White chocolate is not chocolate. It contains cocoa butter but no cocoa/chocolate solids.
While it is the cocoa butter that makes both white and brown smooth and creamy, the lack of cocoa solids disqualifies it as actual chocolate.
Chocolate is brown and the darker the better in my opinion.
Cheers

Love the “Mockolate” line!

@Jethro Bodine i take it from your post you are not a white chocolate fan. Yes I know about the process of making “white” “chocolate” but regardless there remains a preference!

Yes there is a preference. My assitant loves white. When we get chocolates from clients as Thank You's or at Christmas, she gets all the white.
But it's not chocolate. It's candy.

My mom loved Terry’s dark chocolate lemons. Really sour and bitter!

Personally I would not know if white chocolate is good enough to be savoured as I never tried it . As I was raised in a dark chocolate/European milk chocolate family and we were not allowed to fraternize or socialize with the white chocolate people around town. It was a no cocoa no choco type of mentality.
Sorry if I didn't have a better input into the conversation.

Charlie, the older gentleman owner of Charlies Chocolates in Burnaby, will happily discuss chocolate. He brings in Belgium chocolate that they make into other forms. He agrees, white chocolate is not really chocolate, as stated above. Milk chocolate has sugar added. The best chocolate to eat for health is dark, with 70% cocoa or higher.
Go see Charlie. Great guy and lots to choose from. Enjoy all!

Charlie's chocolate factory??

My preference to eat is white chocolate. BUT I have tasted some really good brown chocolate too. I have yet to taste really black chocolate. A big long chocolate bar is good too once in a while.
