Tonight I headed to an outcall to a downtown location. I pulled into the parking lot next to The Old Spaghetti Factory. I was sitting there in the truck for a few minutes as I was early, and noticed an employee walk out the back door of the Old Spaghetti Factory, light a cigarette, walk down the stairs, walk over to the dumpster, and he then proceeded to pull his dick out and take a piss. He zipped up, finished his cigarette, and headed back inside. I just sat there shaking my head and wondering, are the washrooms broken in the restaurant? Did he just need to feel a cold breeze on his dick? Does the kind of guy who pisses behind a dumpster at work actually go in and wash his hands before touching food again? I decided it was enough to make me go inside and talk to the manager about it. I thought it was disgusting that this person may be touching peoples food with the same hand that was just on his dick just minutes before.
The manager thanked me and said she was going to talk to the guy I described to her. I don’t know if she actually will, but it doesn’t hurt to try. I just thought I’d inform you all of this situation in case you planned on eating at The Old Spaghetti Factory downtown.

You did the right thing telling the manager. THe manager will probably say something, unless the guy is the dishwasher, then he does nothing all night but wash his hands.

Thank you Buddha I am going to do just that. It just disgusts me to know that is what goes on in restaurants and people wonder why there is things like food contamination and food poisoning...DUH! I worked in kitchens for the better part of 20 years and I was a chronic at washing my hands, ok ok it was only because I really really loved the smell and feel of the soap we had there....LOL

Assumptions have a way of getting in the way of facts.

Fact, restaurants are required by law to have "wash hands after using toilet" in staff washrooms.

Fact, a restaurant chain/franchise is more likely to have a reputation to protect, hence stricter cleanliness regulations.

Fact, you didn't follow him into the restaurant to see if he washed his hands or not.

Fact, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Doesn't mean he used it. I clearly saw him pissing outside on the dumpster. For whatever reason he felt the need to go there and not in the washroom, is beyond me.

I never said he didn't go in and wash his hands. I said It made me wonder if somebody who pisses on a dumpster outside the place they work is the type to go back in and wash his hands. I'm sure pissing on the dumpster is against company policy, but he didn't seem to care about that rule.

Fact, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
I don't piss on dumpsters.
I'm not going to have a pissing contest (no pun intended) with you on this matter. I simply stated what I saw. Maybe your ok with it, some others may not be ok with eating food prepared by somebody who very well may not have washed their hands after holding their dick behind a dumpster. If by stating that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones you are referring to the fact that I suck dick and have no right to talk, then your off... I never asked you to suck a dick. Therefore I don't need to warn you about sucking dick. People who eat at The Old Spaghetti Factory might want to know that the gent cooking their noodles, might not be washing his hands after holding his noodle. Either way, its bad business to run a restaurant with employees pissing in the back. Hands washed or not!

Fact: He was pissing in public and last time I checked that was considered indecent exposure

Fact: Theres a washroom in the restaurant, it's there for pissing and shitting!

At the very least the guy needs a swift slap upside the head and a map to the washroom shoved up his ass!

My 2 cents. :)

We can't be sure the fukk-wad didn't wash his hands. We know he's a fukkin pig for pissing on the OSF's dumpster especially while he's working there.

I can tell you that boss's don't take shit lightly. With any luck the guy got off lightly and was just fired.

Personally who knows what the fukk goes on at 1/2 these bloody restaurants.

RIGHT ON....are these the kind of people we want in our food industry?
FACT: He was pissing on public property...some body has to handle that dumpster at some point. Let along a homeless person.

Sad state of our mental attitudes in society. CalgaryJenn, I am glad you had the 'balls' to do something...99% or the people would have been offended but do nothing...

I don't know, but I did hear about a butcher who backed into the meat grinder and got behind in his orders. :p

1. Its beyond you, why, you had the gull to talk to his manager, why didn't you talk to the guy. Perhaps the washroom was full, and perhaps the management frowned on employee's using the customer johns. Perhaps only had enough time for a smoke. The piss was a bonus.

2. Doesn't mean this guy doesn't follow the rules. Franchises make an effort to hire quality individuals. Its not, go in and get job on first interview, rather go to three interviews, get interviewed by cooking staff, then go on probation for six months. Chances are, this guy washed his hands.

3. You actually think its written on OSF company policy not to piss on the dumpster?

4. I apologize for that comment. Its a safe position to say any restaurant worker, myself included, doesn't wash their hands after using the washroom. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that you branded this chain of restaurants in your post. Certainly one employee's sanitary habits shouldn't be used to judge the entire chains sanitary habits. If someone started a post that a SP had aids, would it not affect your entire profession?

5. "New" There are far more things to be worried about when dining in at a restaurant in a thriving urban area. Having been in the pest control industry for ten years, I guarentee you, poor hygeine should be the least of your worries.

I am in this industry and what we see & hear is only the tip of the ice.

I posted once before on a subject similar and make this suggestion for all:

If you want to have a good feeling about the establishments you go to eat at, then kindly ask the managers if they would show you around the establishement. Tell them why and if they refuse, unless they can explain it is against Workers Comp regulations or something legit like that, they should be proud to show you how they are organized and keep the restauruant.

If they sound offended by your request, I would eat somewhere else.

And Regional Health Authorities are a great start to communicate stuff like this. They will check it out and are obliged to advise what they found and any corrective measures.

I agree with the statement there are a lot worse things that we don't see & hear about in the food industry. The rest on this guy is unacceptible whether he worked at the restaurant or not. The fact he went back into that restuarant only makes the scenario worse.

We should report this type of behavior and where it happened. I can tell you when a rest chain violates Health By-laws, the health board does not hide the fact who they are, regardless of the fact this is an isloated location.

Check out the Calgary Regional Health Board listings and you will see Earl's is on the list of violators. Report it so it can be addressed.

Break the chain of Disease and Bacteria spreading and we will all go a long ways to help prevent food borne illnesses.

having worked in the business...

The world is not your urinal. We invented sewers, and treatment plants and flush toliets for a reason. You need to have a pretty good reason to disregard public hygeine and sanitation and dump your bodily waste on the streets and alleys.

Jenn is right to report this guy. Not because he may or may not have washed his hands, or might mishandle the food or whatever... but because it reflects badly on the restaurant to have people walk out the back door and urinate in public. He was seen by a member of the public after all. And it reflects badly on a restaurant to have it's back alley and dumpster smelling of urine.

Juggy? You are in the resturant biz and you are defending the guy who pissed on a dumpster outside of his resturant?

Please let us know which resturant you work in so we can all eat elsewhere.

My thoughts exactly! Juggy's defense of the dipshit Jenn saw is definitely cause for concern. And his suggestion that instead of speaking to the manager she should have talked to the guy is totally nuts. "Hey buddy, I just watched you take a whizz by the dumpster. What's up with that?" I'm sure that would have been a real fun conversation.
