Looks like a waste of money to me.....it's no more secure than a WWII style bunker...get a jerry can of gas, pour it in the air intake, light a match...and voila...even if teh occupants aren't burned they are asphixiated by the O2 burning up...

There is a "safe room" fed by:
"An 8-inch diameter air intake pipe and a 6-inch diameter exhaust pipe are both protected by Luwa blast valves. These spring-loaded valves will clamp shut in the event of a high atmospheric overpressure. These pipes run underground to a buried gravel pit before surfacing in the woods. Using sanitary-tee drains, this set-up will prevent anyone from pumping any kind of liquid, such as gasoline, into the safe room through these pipes. "
There are a couple of air intakes as well (if you can find 'em).
Elsewhere they discuss similar scenarios. Sounds like they thought about the design pretty thoroughly. The house IS is pricey though.
So you're buried nice and snug in your hole. If you've gone under to avoid some sort of mass catastrophe what's going to be left for you once its passed. Given the location of this particular shelter (which is in the middle of fucking no where) its safe to assume you're in an area at low risk for any natural disasters. Great that your protected against an NBC attack and civil insurrection but will anything remain topside that you'd consider livable. You can't stay in this concrete womb forever.
God forbid there's a WWIII but if there is I'd rather my number come up early on vs. watching the horrors that would unfold.
I would agree 100%, I could not even imagine wanting to be one of the few survivors left to rebuild.Neither would I want to be all snug as a bug while knowing that friends,family and loved ones above suffer from the effects of radiation poisoning... I for one couldn't do it.
I think that self-preservation is one of the instincts that all of us posess. Sure, it would't be pretty afterwards but at least your kids and you would be alive.
