Edmonton
Hey there Gina, you might find this thread useful:

My recommendations are:
Japanese: Mikado (overall), Kyoto (best dynamite rolls in town, average otherwise), Sankyu (bang for the buck)
Fine dining: Harvest Room at Hotel Macdonald (my personal fave), Hardware Grill (generally regarded as best restaurant in town), Unheardof (theme is fresh local ingredients done with flair. Very Anglo-Saxon complete with pictures of the Queen on the wall), Manor Cafe (bring a flashlight cause it`s super dark in there, but great food)
Thai: Bua Thai (not fancy but really good)
Casual/Fusion/Interesting: Gabbana (best casual dining in town. Get the wild boar salad)
Italian: Sicilian Pasta Kitchen (best pasta in town), Sorrentino`s (fancy and good, but a little overpriced)
(if you have a tough time making up your mind, the "power corner" of restaurants in the city, IMHO, is Sicilian Pasta Kitchen, Bua Thai, and Gabbana, all right next to each other on 114th Street and Jasper)
Indian: New Asian Village West (approx. 172nd St, 100th Ave) -- awesome lunch buffet for $10.95
Best kept secret: Cafe at Holt`s at Holt Renfrew, Manulife (surprisingly cheap lunch prices for fine dining, the best chicken caesar salad I`ve ever had)
Feed-my-face-healthy-and-tasty-and-cheap: Pho Tau Bay (Chinatown). They only serve one dish -- Vietnamese beef noodle soup -- but people still keep lining up out the door at lunchtime. Only costs about $6 and an interesting experience.
Korean - Bul-Go-Gi House. Tasty and cheap, an Edmonton institution
Best donairs: Nitza`s (sp?) in St. Albert
Best fancy place for eating meat: Normands (nothing too fancy or experimental, just great execution)
Chinese Dim Sum: Jumbo Restaurant
Just a note on L`Azia`s since someone mentioned it in the thread I referenced above. Downtown L`Azia: good food, exceptional value because the portion sizes are huge ***1/2. North Side L`Azia: worst food I`ve had at a sit down restaurant **
