Condeleeza Rice visits the Middle East. What is the purpose? To bring a conclusion to the war, preferably with an Israeli victory over Hezbollah.

We are seeing the birth of a new Middle East. In the times before, even only in the last presidency of Bill Clinton, we dealt with the age-old Middle East conflict of Arab vs. Jew heightened by the question of Palestinian/Jewish sovereingty. The new Middle East is being shaped by state-backed radicals jousting for power over more moderate Arab states. It is divided along religious lines of Shii and Sunni. But though the moderate Arab states' governments are Sunni, as their populace, the confluence of the rise of Shii power and aggression by Western states is radicalizing even the predominantly Sunni populace. The real victor of the American invasion of Iraq is overwhelmingly Iran (and not the United States), who has now lost their traditional enemy who had long kept them in check. In retrospect, the American policy of bolstering Sadaam did indeed prevent an influential, strong, and very anti-American Islamic power from rising. But that has been carelessly discarded.

There is nothing for Condi Rice to do now but cheerlead Israel into all of Lebanon and risk a war with Syria. Unwavering support for the Israeli war on Lebanon has become downright embarrassing to the United States, as Israel had become completely undiscriminating in the wholesale killing of civilians and civilian infrastructure, whatever the stated objective. The option to broker a peace with Syria and Iran is well off the table, for these states could only offer empty bargaining in a sue for a cease-fire because of the loss of the American ability to be an honest broker after the Iraqi misadventure. Condi Rice's trip will be short indeed.

Look forward to an Israeli war with Syria, since Syria can now not stop Hezbollah. I was right six months ago that Iran was the victor of the Iraqi invasion. All signals point to a widening of the war. If I am right again, it is only because Condi's actions will basically tell the world that Israel has the American blessing to go after Syria.

Condi is smart, but she is just a smart school teacher when compared to others before her in the same position, such as Madeleine Albright, Zbignew Zrebinsky, and even Henry Kissinger. This is all the result of a United States being led by a bunch of amateurs in the White House. The forthcoming 8th year of G.W. Bush will have given birth to a new and uncontrollable Middle East monster. It seems the Christian fundamentalist cohorts of the younger Bush are successfully fulfilling their own dreaded prophecy.

Mixing of political leaders and religion?!?! God help us all !!

So what's next?......Thy staff and thy sword in the form of flying nukes?
From medieval to modern, no different, only the weapons have changed,
say WOT?! Sure is a great epitaph for seeing how we progressed, say, in
the last 2000 years?! :(

I'd say she's trying to buy Israel some more time (not that Israel cares what the world thinks anyways).

Why would Israel want all of Lebanon? Between the devastated infrastructure and the feelings of much of the populace, what would be the point? They've got their hands full with Hezbollah in the south. They may be overzealous when going after Hezbollah in civilian areas, but they're not downright stupid. They've wargamed this to death, they aren't going to fritter away the opportunity that Hezbollah handed them when it kidnapped the 2 soldiers.

Look forward to an Israeli war with Syria, since Syria can now not stop Hezbollah.
Huh? I'm pretty sure they're satisfied with fighting on 2 fronts. Syria's irrelevant. Iran is a long-term issue (which would be somewhat addressed by disarming Hezbollah)

This is all the result of a United States being led by a bunch of amateurs in the White House.
Amateurs they are. But you're giving them too much credit.

Condi is an idiot for refusing to talk to Hezbollah and Hamas. She is only pretending to be dealing with the problem.

Of course your buddy LD and his mildly retarded sidekick, Dittman, will appear from nowhere after not posting about any other subject on this board and defend the Shrub and gush about how this is all part of Shrub's grand, master plan.

For those who have read and believe the bible, I'm sure you can twist this to further justify your beliefs in that propaganda. I myself, just think it's a case of the most destructive, useless form of life on this planet running it's course.

Rice says "we are deeply concerned about the Lebanese people and what they are enduring" and "President Bush wanted this to be my first stop -- here in Lebanon -- to express our desire to urgently find conditions in which we can end the violence and make life better for the Lebanese people"? What a crock 'o shit. Maybe she should ask her boss to make the one phone call that it would take to have Israel back off.

But then again, and I'm not being judgemental or saying this is the case, but perhaps this is a reflection as to who really runs the White House......
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/US-Israel/bushjews.html
....and if that is the case, where do you really think this is heading?

As long as someone doesn't launch anything our way, why should I give a rat's ass? This has and will go on forever or, well, until Iran nukes Israel. Big deal, as long as they keep it in their own back yard.

So kids, always remember what Tolstoy meant to write......War, What is it Good For?

Now it's time for some Bran Flakes, a couple cups of coffee, and a nice peaceful morning dump.

Does she have any credibility, any impartiality? – she carries no baggage whatsoever! – the decades old pro-Israeli support coupled with the expressed diplomatic position to support Israel’s attacks on Lebanon… itself in the midst of the recent days rushing of smart bombs to Israel.

WTF! Didn’t she just say, "now is not the right time for a ceasefire," and that it would be a "false promise."

Amateurs? Don’t worry – they have Karen Hughes warmed up in the bullpen.

Not killing people is always better than killing people. Churchill said "Better jaw, jaw, jaw than war, war, war."
Of course Israel doesn't want a ceasefire when things are going their way!

Condi Rice will fail only if both sides are unable to agree to cease fire and live peacefully next to each one other.

Yes, Canada is grand. If you were in a war plagued place, wouldn't you want Canada to come through for you? Of course you would. Harper is doing what a good leader does in times of emergency and that's to protect his people.

What you mean by fake Canadian passports?

Ceasefire today = more rockets into Israel aimed at civilians tomorrow. Why would Israel agree?

War Must Be Stopped - Immediately!!

Isarel and Lebanon must stop this immediately!! Innocent people in both countries are suffering from this war. Someone whether it is U.S.A or Canada must get both countries to sit down together to discuss their differences and hoepfully get them to come to some type of a solid agreement. Both countries want peace.
It is hard to watch this war on TV every night. The rest of world must come together to help Isarel and Lebanon to stop this fighting and hopefully we can help resolve this conflict between both countries.

That sounded like an answer in the Miss Universe pageant.

I think that even Hezbollah underestimated the Israeli response, otherwise Hezbollah would have pre-infiltrated Israel with a hundred suicide bombers. This way they could have done the daily water torture of a bomber a day to maximize press exposure that they had some offense.

I guess you are not joking. No I don't agree with what's happening over there, but I truely doubt that some country is going to get them to sit down and work this all out. And no jack ass politician had better volunteer Canadian troops to keep/force a peace. I've been there and done that in Bosnia and I would not wish that on anyone.

You mean well and I can respect that. Let's leave it there.

Something has to be done by someone to help stop this war. I am not suggesting to volunteer Canadian troops to the area but we and I mean the rest of the world cannot sit on our hands do nothing and watch while innocent people in both countries are killed or injuried.
There has to a diplomatic solution to help resolve this situation. I hope someone soon will step forward and take the initiative to help find a permanent agreement for both countries.
It can be done only if both countries are willing to talk, hopefully can compromise on differences then agreement can be established.
