Hello - and - Help!

I'm putting together a Christmas letter to my "buds" and I want to make it look jazzy - but electronically. Wait for it - I lost my snail-mail address book - good enough excuse for not using the Post? I want to drop in some cool seasonal icons / images - but where I want them on the page (drag and drop).

How do I do this in MS Word - and what are some good sources for the images?

Your hi-tech help is most appreciated!

Here's a good site with lots of links to tonnes of images...

I'm not sure of your level of expertise using Word so if my explanation is too "basic" I'll apologize in advance...

When you see an image you like, simply point your cursor over the image and right click your mouse. You should see a box open up that has a number of options in it. Click on "Save picture as" option and it will save it to the location of your choice in your computer. It might be a good idea to create a folder called Christmas images to make your images easier to find and to delete when you're done with them.

To use them in Word

Look at the top of your Word document and you'll see some button bars. At the top you'll see a line that says "File Edit View Insert" etc... click on "Insert" and scroll down to "Picture". Remember the location of the file with your Christmas downloads? Find the image you want and double left click it. You should now see it on the previously blank word document. To be able to move it around right click on the image and click on "Format Picture". You will now see a new box open up...click on "Layout"...next click on "Behind Text" or "In Front of Text" which I hope is self explanatory.

You should now be able to move the image around simply by clicking on the picture and while holding the button down dragging your mouse into the proper position and then let go of the button. Your picture should move into place. If you want to resize the image either bigger or smaller simply click on the image and place your cursor over a corner of the image and while clicking the left button move your cursor in to make smaller or out to make bigger.

The last couple pieces of advice I have are:

- Save often
- Check your print preview before sending to make sure it looks like it's supposed to...

I hope this helps. Good luck with your Christmas cards.

Also try:

I dunno know about images, like hard at work says go to that site. Other wise hit google.

For puttin the images to paper, I would try some desk top publishing software. MS Publisher is extremely easy to use and can manipulate images quit well. Adobe PageMaker if you go hi-end. Page maker does have a free trial.

Word is fine, but for making cards and brochures, etc... thers better ways.
