This afternoon during my lunch break @ work I decided to listen to my favourite sports radio (online) show "The Chevy Dealer" Big Sports Show out of St. Louis, Missouri, as I am a rabid St. Louis Rams fan I wanted to ask Randy the "host" about Kurt Warner and how he will help Eli Manning in the NFL for the NY Giants, they answered my question, then I asked them about the whole Todd Bertuzzi thing, I asked Randy and John the 2 hosts of the show, "People in Vancouver feel Todd Bertuzzi has suffered enough and have been ripped off enough" I pointed out that Todd has been ignored twice for being on Team Canada in the last 2 months and the NHL hasn't done or said anything about how long he is out for, they are letting Todd just sit around. "David Pratt says Todd is being treated so unfairly." So when I asked the 2 hosts they told me to hold on and I should direct my questions to CHRIS PRONGER former 1999-2000 NHL Hart Trophy winner of the St. Louis Blues. He was going to be their special guest after they were done with my call. So I asked Chris about it, Chris is a really nice guy and a top 3 defenceman in the NHL for all the ladies who don't know who he is. Chris asked me what I thought and I said he as suffered enough. Pronger said "Todd Bertuzzi knew dam well what he was doing on the ice when he attacked Steve Moore and when he says "Steve I didn't intend on injuring you" well he is a liar". Chris also said that when he (Chris Pronger) is on the ice he knows if he's going to really hurt another player and he felt Bertuzzi's comments were pure bullshit. The hosts wondered how many more games Todd should be suspended for more and Randy asked Chris " Do you think 40 more games is a right number then after the 40 games are served Todd has to reapply to get back in the NHL." Pronger said Jeff Buekaboom career ended with a sucker punch from Matt Johnson and got 3 or 5 games, and that Gary Sutter crosschecked Paul Kariya and got only 3 games . So Chris agreed 40 games is the right number and he should reapply to get back in. It's so obvious Chris Pronger hates Bertuzzi, very intresting comments. Remember Todd injured Pronger's teammate and very good friend Barret Jackman and he was gone for the whole season last year as Bertuzzi injured him in October 2003. www.550ktrs.com

i remember in the 2002 playoffs when the blues were against the wings, and pronger tried to smoke yzerman against the boards.....but yzerman side-stepped and pronger went face-first into the glass, and was out for the next season.

The NHL can take thier bloody time because most likely there wont be a hockey season next year. The bertuzzi situation isnt that important to the NHL head office.

Pronger is a gap-toothed donkey
let’s see: Pronger received several top awards as a junior, he was a first round draft, he’s been named to the first & second all star teams several times, he’s a Norris trophy winner and a Hart trophy winner.

but Pronger’s a donkey because?

Chris is a really nice guy and a top 3 defenceman in the NHL for all the ladies who don't know who he is.
LOL – ladies as in ladies or ladies as in guys who don’t know hockey?

Because everyone on this board is biased. However I feel that costing his teammates any playoff success is sufficient punishment.

I think that the punishment received from the NHL will far exceed anything he get's from the courts.......just a total waste of tax payer's money once again.........he lost the chance to help his team win the stanley cup, ate $500,000 and now doesn't get the chance to be in the World Cup.....that hurts far more than some community service hours...........I only played hockey till Junior B but one thing I know just like Chris Pronger.......he knew what he was doin out there he was yappin at him all the way down the ice, Moore had already fought in the game.......he doesn't have to fight every player to redeem himself for the Naslund hit (which I don't think was dirty) so when Moore wouldn't turn around he suckers him and on the way down was taking a second swing that didn't complete because people were piling on.

So no doubt he intended to hurt him......maybe not on the level he did but it was still intentional.......the piling on was probably the reason for the cracked vertebrae so I don't think that is solely Todd's fault.........one thing is for certain when he does come back he'll use his head a little more before he acts.

I think Bert, knew that he wanted to injuire him, but not to that extent. Pronger is just jaded because:

a) He took out Barret Jackman (as stated by scott231)
b) He took out McInnis the year before

that puts the D- load work directly on Pronger.

This all would have never happened if Moore had just dropped the gloves with Brad May instead of Cooke (who never really fight)

all in all, Bert will be thinking everytime he gets on the ice.

If we set aside our obvious bias for our home team it would not be hard to believe Pronger's statement. Lets face it, it does not take a rocket scientiest (which Bertuzzi isn't) to figure out that sucker punching someone in the back of the head will cause an unjury regardless of how serious it is. We should also note that Bertuzzi had recently been suspended for another similar incident (nowhere near as serious) and should have known better.

Has he been punished enough? Absolutely

Has his team been hurt by his actions? Yes and rightully so

Does he deserve to be tried criminally for it? No its NHL business and its a violent sport where fights are routine and are punshied by minor penalties

Has he learned his lesson? I would fucking hope so!

My $.02

Chris Pronger

Those who lives in glass houses should not cast stones.

He is over-rated & paid. Its not like he is Mr. Lady Bing himself. What he thinks of Bertuzzi have no bearing whatsoever on me. Couldn't care less.

Pronger couldn't get the job done in the 2000 season, and he never will.

no matter how good st.louis does in the regular season, they can't hang with the REAL teams in the playoffs

Chris Pronger

Firstly Chris Pronger has had a great NHL career up to date. I remember watching the NHL draft in 1993 when I was in grade 6 and Brian Burke of the Hartford Whalers traded up just to draft Chris Pronger 2nd overall, he was by far the best player drafted in 1993. Chris is a former Hart Trophy, Norris Trophy, Lester B Pearson award winner, he helped Canada win the gold medal in 2002, and has been a countless NHL allstar. Now I believe Chris Pronger is the best defenceman in the NHL and is on par with Ed Jovonaski and Chris Chelios or even better. When Chris told me that Bertuzzi was lying about not intending on hurting Steve Moore, I was shocked he said that but since he was on a St. Louis radio show he probably felt more open to talk about it. When the whole Bertuzzi thing happened in early March I remember Dan Patrick of ESPN Radio asking Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers of the whole incident and Miller's response to the Bertuzzi incident "He's a Goon". Reggie Miller doesn't know Todd or even watch the NHL but he called Todd a goon. I feel Todd should sit out until we know the fate of Steve Moore if he will play hockey ever again. Just my 2 cents. scott231

I hope you're not thinking Vancouver can hang out with real teams in the playoffs, Because they have been pissing me off every spring since 94, Canucks have to be shity through out the season but just make the playoffs and roll with the fact they made the playoffs to have a good run in the playoffs

Step number 1 towards bringing back the death penalty for 1st degree murder. The punishment should fit the crime, or shouldn't it. Our justice system is as much about punishment than it is about rehabilitation. Any thoughts?

Not picking on you Scott. Just using the above as an example.

Bertuzzi is not a goon he's a lunk head that does stupid things on the Ice Brookbank and May are goons Crawford the coach should send the Message by using his goons in the right way,Players should know there rolls, steve Moore deserved to get his head knock off for what he did to Naslund he also hurt some one else can't remember who, I played enough Hockey over the years touch a star player were going to knock you're head off, again This is simple know you're role it's to bad the cheap artist Prick broke his neck and Todd didn't mean to do more than knock him into Next week

Unfortunately, it's attitudes like this that reflect badly on such a great game. Hockey is a wonderful game of skill, not a game that is one step removed from the WWF. Nobody, no matter what sport they play, deserves to get their neck broken by a sucker punch.

What's amazing about all of this is that Markus Naslund came out after Steve Moore hit him and said "It was a clean hit". Secondly Chris Pronger saying Bertuzzi is a liar, I mean Todd Bertuzzi's peer (Chris Pronger) feels that he was intending on injuring Moore and said " 12 games and 7 games in the playoffs is not enough". The NHL is going to do what the U.S public wants, they don't care about what Vancouver people think. The NHL signed a crappy tv package with NBC getting no money upfront and NBC walking away from the deal after one year if the ratings suck and ESPN's deal with only 40 games and those games won't even be shown on ESPN they will be shown on ESPN 2. They will punish Bertuzzi and make an example out of him so the NHL can be taken seriously in the U.S.

I am sure Betuzzi did not mean to hurt him that badly, probably to give him a black eye/shinner or something like that.

The sucker punch would not and did not deliver the broken or fractured vertabrate, but the pile of players on top of Moore contributed to the consequence. I believe it was the third person (an Ave player) who contributed to Moore's injury.

Plus, that sucker punch from Bert would not be that hard comparing to a lot of such incidents thru out the years...
Domi usually delivers sucker punches to other players and not penalized for a long period of time, why should Bert be?

It Bert-Moore incident looked more like:
Bert was trying to pick a fight with moore, and yet moore turtled and skated away or shy from accepting the invitation from Bert. As moore skated away, Bert was following him and pulling on moore's jersey( moore should have known the pull was from Todd), then Bert delivered a punch (mind you, with gloves on) to moore's back of head and at the same time, moore was trying to draw more penalties and pretending to fall, but not knowing Bert was falling too with other Ave's players piling up on the ice causing the injury.

According to ex GM Brian Burke the day after the hit "Steve Moore will be skating in 6 weeks". About 4 weeks later Steve Moore is sitting in his press conference wearing a neck brace. Todd Bertuzzi has paid a big price for his actions and he is probably going to live with it for the rest of his life. What people don't realize Steve Moore could of died on the ice yet some idiotic fans in Vancouver make it out that Todd Bertuzzi is the victim. I'd like to ask how many of those Bertuzzi's supporters who were @ the courthouse 2 weeks ago would be there if Bertuzzi did that to one of there family members or friends AND how many of Bertuzzi supporters would be at the courthouse and have the rally for Bertuzzi if Tyler Bouck injured Steve Moore instead of big Bert? For the record I'm not a Canucks fan( Washington Capitals fan) so om looking at this as if I'm an outsider.
