I eventually had to download all the Norton Evilware and just go for the totally stripped down version of Norton anti-virus.

Norton has learned far too many tricks about 'malicious' code to be trusted anymore beyond the basic anti-virus protection.

For example, I run a VERY good bought-and-paid-for spyware removal software called XoftSpy in combination with a freeware program called Spyware Blaster that detects and blocks Spyware as it tries to enter my system. Together they work so well that my machine is Spyware-free (despite my demon kids downloading music and doing Lord-knows-what in the MSN EVIL CHAT and MESSENGER!)

Anyway, when I installed the entire Norton Evilware package on my machine, I ran a check with XoftSpy for spyware because I do that every time I install new software. I read somewhere (on the Internet of course) that software companies ALLOW spyware to be sold with their software packages. Can you imagine my incredulous surprise at finding 166 separate pieces of spyware on a machine that had checked out clean the day before I installed the Norton Evilware package?

I was some kinda pissed at Mr. Fucking Norton let me tell you! Luckily I had paid the extra dough and could exchange the Evilware package for the bare bones package.

DANG! I still get pissed thinking about it!

You could do a system restore to before Norton was put in. Then just leave it out.

I had Norton before as well Dak. It caused me similar problems. Best to try some of the other (free) firewalls eg. Sygate or Zonealarm among others. I also use Avast Antivirus and its free too.

BTW - you have a nice butt!!

well Dakota Wood, try disabling a setting called "Privacy Control". Let me know how it works.

and next time try "DitDefender" as ur internet security software.
Norton is good, yet more and more complicated every new release. BitDefender is "install it, and forget about it", although not "FREE", very well worth it.
Cheers!
