Well, another season of futility limps to an end.

I wonder if the cheerleaders in the media, and rabid fans understand how bad the Canucks are.

Wthout Markstrom standing on his head, they probably would be the worst team in the league. He probably stole 12 -15 points by himself over the course of the season.

As the suckers have been saying for 30 years, "Wait until next season."

At least 4 more season before we can see Canucks in the final.

But I think they will get into the playoff starting next season

I agree. The youth movement is looking very promising. Every year Canucks have added another key piece to the rebuild.

I realize adding a goon is so 1990's but we do need an asshole on the ice who can skate and chip in the occasional goal. Just an insurance policy protecting the scoring assets. Best would be a tough D man.

I'm thinking the Canucks will do a trade on draft day to make sure they get Jack Hughes. Who they let go might haunt them for years if that player turns into a Cam Neely. They have a remote chance of #1 pick. Nothing like making a big splash when the draft is in Vancouver.

I didn't expect the Canucks to make the playoffs or have anything but a scrape-the-bottom sort of year. The fact that got the positioning they did (9th last) is thanks to their young players, but doing better than expected also makes their draft position suck more.
Do I expect better in the future? Yeah.

Lots of markers to indicate how far they lag in some areas. Like when you look in the top 25 or 30 or even 50 NHL scoring leaders, and there's not a single Canuck among them (yeah, way down at #61, I checked). It makes me laugh though, at the fact that Edmonton has McDavid & Draisaitl both over 100 points and still failing worse than the Canucks are.
Horvat, Petterson, Boeser, Hughes - should be getting better and better as a team if the Canucks management don't fuck up the future. What the team needs might not be out there for them in this draft.

There's not many people who say "trade Edler", but I've been one of them for a few years now. In his case, I think the stats overstate his usefulness.

If you ever feel bad about the Canucks, check out the Ottawa Senators: The franchise went from major contender to basket case in just a few years; like the Oilers, the team seems to now have the "black spot" (where players around the NHL do not want to be traded there or if they are there, want to be traded away); if they can't compete for star players in that smaller market, they are in danger of being moved; the problem is primarily the team owner and the fans are openly at war with him.

They have to stop thinking about Cam Neely, every team has a trade they have regretted. Building thru the draft is key, trades arnt. The future is getting brighter.

Cam Neely trade was so long ago. But I haven't heard about getting Naslund for Alex Stojonov.,,,,,

The point being trading up in the draft will cost giving up players and picks.

Sure Neely was a long time ago. It's the reminder not to give up on a young player with an upside which make up a fair number of the current roster.

Think of it as a blessing. At least you wont have a horde of assholes trashing downtown Vancouver and looting because the hockey team lost in game 7 against the Bruins...time before that it was the Rangers and the same kind of riot ensued. Thus far Vancouver has had 2 Stanley Cup riots which means douchebag fans.

Calgary finished top in their conference...I dont care.Calgary will be in the playoffs as a fave team....I dont care......got sick of listening to whiney millionaires complaining about whiney billionaires 2 lock outs ago......I dont give a rats ass.My parents were British and I am the first born in Canada in my family.Never saw hockey night in canada on the CBC on the TV on a Saturday night when I was growing up.

I have gone to one Flames game in my life and it was the final game of the season....it was "fan appreciation night" and I had hot dogs THROWN at me by the concession workers....they hit me on the chest and I was told to pretty much fuck off.

I would rather burn money and piss on the ashes than spend it on tickets to a Flames game.

I agree we need more toughness and another guy to chuck knuckles if necessary, but not a D-man.
Too easy to run into trouble if you lose another D in the game through penalties, ejection, injury or what have you. 6 can turn into 4 in a big hurry if your tough guy is in the box. Better a forward IMO.
And NOT Simmonds or Ferland- too much money and term involved. And don't expect Kid Shotgun to be that guy either- it's just not in him.

Just stay out of the hockey threads if it brings you so much angst- maybe stick to darts or whatever floats your boat. Every year is your same old blah blah blah.

Who knew the Concession employees had such astute judgement of your personality? Bravo :thumb:

Posting how much you hate hockey every season in every thread is futile. We happen to be hockey fans.

We have horrible luck with this draft lottery.

I'm sure Benning is feeling the heat with a wannabe Manager who happens to be the Owner.

The reality with this upcoming draft is that after the first 5 picks the type of player at 6 doesn’t really have more potential than the player at 10, or even at 15. What sucks is the fact the Canucks keep having the worst luck, particularly this year with the draft in Vancouver.

There isn’t a snowballs chance that Benning can pull a Burkie and make a draft deal to move up significantly, unless he’s prepared to move Pettersson, which hopefully he isn’t!!!

New Jersey is also on a rebuild program and getting an American Star player is more important to them than any combination Benning could offer. Other than any of our younger players.
