A story on CTV was on a cancer patient, who during treatment had stem cells injected into his body. Now has no sign of HIV. One patient in Berlin, the second in London. No reporting of if they are taking current HIV drugs for these 2 patients cured of HIV?

Part of it was a gene in the T cells that resist HIV.

Although the major treatment for any cancer is chemotherapy, a new treatment is to use T-cells to enhance the antibodies of the hosts' body for cancer. This seems to work and is in the study/trial stages, but it is expensive to grow new cells (and it takes time).

I like the idea of advancing medical science, for possible cure for cancer, but it seem there is nothing to be know about this treatment for cancer outside a few documentaries.

During the interview on CTV there was a doctor saying that patients with HIV are living as close to normal life with current treatments. ie. drugs that they have to keep on taking.

So keep the HIV infected people on drugs for the rest of their lives vs a treatment that could cure them for the rest of their lives? Is is Drug companies and their profits? Are there current studies going on to find out how the stem cell treatment is working to eliminate HIV in the host's body?

Is stem cell research allowed in Canada?

I've had this convo numerous times, more often when a family member has died of cancer, of which every immediate close family member of mine who HAS passed away, is due to cancer. There is NO WAY imo there isn't a complete, and financially affordable to everyone, cure to both these diseases, cancer moreso, Big Pharma will never let it be released, simply due to the profits they are making, again, this is just my opinion, since there has been so much money and research being done over the years, billions to the cause for there not to be a cure. I simply cannot believe there aren't cures.

To cure a serious disease would affect more than just big pharma; Too many businesses would close down- clinics, drugstores, therapists, technicians. The govt would take a huge financial hit . Unemployment. Population control. Just to name a few.

Look at heroin addiction. Around 20 years ago, Royal Columbian Hospital developed a procedure that literally cured it. For 7000$ , the patient would undergo 2 minor surgeries. First rapid detox for 24 hrs(basically filtering the blood so no withdrawal period) then the second was a small implant known as a down inhibitor. Even if a person tried to use heroin again, there would be no high whatsoever. Will medical cover this NO .. They would rather spend millions more feeding people methadone (more harmful and addictive than heroin by the way) knowing they will still be using heroin as well and/or selling the methadone on the street for a hefty profit.

Its hard to believe cancer isn't treated like an epidemic. When I was growing up cancer rates were 1 in 10,000 and now they are 1 in 4. But as has been said, there is no money in cures as apposed to ongoing treatments.
