I want your input! This can be like SEE magazine's annual poll, but from a PERBert's perspective (we being people of tremendously good taste).

Canadian/American/surf and turf
I like the Moose Factory, Four Rooms, Tin Palace, Joey Tomatoes, Dante's Bistro, and hardware grill.
The Keg, despite being a chain, still serves up one of the best steaks.

Japanese
Kyoto has good sushi

Chinese/Szechuan/Dim Sum
The name escapes me, but it's on 101 St and 107 Ave, across from the Brick.
For dim sum, can't go wrong with many of the joints in Chinatown

Vietnamese
Only been to Doan's in downtown, which was alright.

Thai
Been once to King & I, which was good.

East Indian
New Asian Village is fantastic, but there are some hidden gems in the 'little India' area (99 St and 34 Ave).

Greek
Haven't been to a local Greek place in a while.

Italian
Always enjoyed Sorrentino's and Chianti's.
Hidden treasures in little Italy, and someone told me about a place called Picolino's somewhere in the west end.

French
Anything out there besides The Creperie?

Mexican
Anything out there besides Julio's?

goesks, I've also heard that Khazana has been questioned for its authenticity. Maybe because they concentrate on tandoori cooking and are rather short on the curry dishes one expects from Indian fare. Or maybe because it's run by a couple of French guys and not by South Asians.

Burgers
The Garage. It's downtown on 106 St, next door to A&B Sound.

Khazanas

My friends ex-wife use to manage Khazanas. The cooks are from India. She told me a couple things that could get the ownership in trouble though so I'll stop there. Never had the pleasure of dining there though.

I've yet to try the Suynday Brunch at the Harvest Room in the Hotel MacDonald, but I'm told that it's excellent!
Apparently it's so good that you need to book at least 2 or 3 weeks in advance.

Speaking of hockey...that buffet restaurant at Rexall Place (or whatever it's called this week) is a good place to go for pre-game eats. Can't remember the name though. It has a separate entrance but you still need game tix to get in. And it's on the same floor as the skyboxes.

Tonight, after months of word-of-mouth, I finally got to try Piccolino's, a nice little Italian restaurant in a nondescript strip mall on 142 St and about 90 Ave. Highly recommended. Gotta book a table though, because it's becoming that popular.

Any of you been to La Spiga? Good food, nice decor, very upscale. It's just off of 102 Ave near 124 St, right beside the Manor Care (another good place to dine).

I really like that section of town, a miniature cultural mecca before you hit the cold glass and steel of the core. La Spiga is fantastic food and service wise I think. I wish it will a little more spacious, but it has the kind of atmosphere you can only have in a smaller place.

La Spiga is without question one of the classiest places in E-Town. Dressing down means taking the Mercedes.... but a fantasitc outing if you are not suprised by $200perperson tabs.

Suprised no one has mentioned Hy's downtown. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Edmonton. Steaks are second to none with the exception of maybe Ceasar's in Calgary.

I like the High Street area too. A real good alternative to an increasingly overly-commercialized Old Strathcona (c'mon, do we really need a Chili's and a Starbucks in that new building). Throw in some more interesting shops, a few more good high-end restaurants and one or two upscale pubs in High Street, and I'll go down there a lot more.

wolverine,
The restaurant you are talking about at Rexall is called Allstars

I like Chance downtown, it has great for and I never leave there hungry.

Discovered a hidden gem of a lunch spot on the south side last week. It's called Savoy's. It's on 51st Ave near 111 St, in the Sobeys strip mall across from Southgate Mall.

It's a tiny bare-bones place, but the East Indian couple who run it are welcoming and friendly. They serve delicious South Asian fare like dosai (crepe filled with a spicy veg and potato filling), idli (rice cake thingies served with chutney) and lentil soup. You can wash that down with good strong coffee brewed in this gigantic gold urn, or some mega-healthy fruit juice drinks that beat Booster Juice all to hell.
