Looks like he should have no problem becoming the new All-Time HR record holder.

I can't help but think that the MLB is cheering him on, steroids and all. Why wouldn't they?

After all, record breakers are good for the game's finances...

yah bud selig has no credibilty on this issue he probably knew that sosa, bonds, mcguire were all using but he wanted to bring the fans back after the disaster of cancelling the world series and this was the way to do it. and now that the fans are back for the most part now he wants to crack down on steroids because it no longer benefits to have players juiced. and speaking of which why would they cancel the world series its bad enough when a season doesn't start but to cancel it half way through just shows that bud selig head was surgically planted in his ass throughout the 90's and beyond

You must be badly mistaken about the world series. I heard Bud Selig say in public that that WS was not cancelled, and he should know, because he's the Commieshunner of baseball so how could he possibly be wrong about something like that?, and besides he's a very honest guy, so it's not a conflict of interest to be a team owner and a Commieshunner at the same time.
Bud is the best Commieshunner we've had in the last five years, no doubt about it.

I don't believe Mr. Selig is an owner any more, Herb. Even the birdbrains who run major league baseball eventually realized that was not an ideal situation. If memory serves me right, he offloaded it to his daughter. I'm sure he will magically reappear as owner of the Brewers when he eventually gets turfed from the commissioner's job. In much the way Dick Cheney will magically reappear at Halliburton when his term as VP is done. Not that I'm inferring that the awarding of unbid upon contracts by the federal government to Halliburton in any way, shape or form stinks like socks someone has worn for a month. No sirree! ;)

Why do you think MLB is cheering him on?? I highly doubt it! Bonds will be a highly unpopular home run king....if in fact he even gets there. I doubt that MLB wants the uproar that will break out if Bonds gets close to, or breaks Aaron's record. It will get bad enough when he passes Babe Ruth after another 10 or so home runs. It's going to bring a huge amount of spotlight to the baseball steroid scandal. Not to mention the fact that Bonds may very well be highly implicated in the whole Balco mess. This is going to get ugly!!

I guess I was speaking in the past tense, when MLB may have found it convenient to "create" modern day heroes. But things are different now, MLB has developed a conscience, and yes, things will get ugly as BB approaches the final two milestones. Maybe they will "take him out" Italian style before he gets there...

i don't know where you heard this from but the 1994 world series was cancelled because of the contract dispute hence why the expos are now the nationals and bud selig is about as honest as a diamond thief in a diamond store

You may be right. What I remember is that he set up a so-called blind trust that wasn't really blind, since its assets were his share of the Brewers -- he didn't divest himself. It's just that he wasn't part of the day-to-day management of the team anymore. His daughter was pres. at one time, but she got demoted to a lesser position in the hierarchy.
I'm not naive enough to think that he doesn't communicate with Brewers' administrators on matters of mutual interest, or that he doesn't make commissioner decisions that will benefit the Brewers, who, BTW, are major beneficiaries of the revenue sharing plan he concocted.

I heard it from Bud Selig at a baseball banquet in Milwaukee a few years ago.
He actually had the gall and stupidity to tell several hundred baseball researchers that the '94 WS wasn't really cancelled.
He's such a compulsive liar that I'm surprised that GW Bush hasn't appointed him to some administration position by now.

Barry Bonds

I was at SBC park the night he returned.

His first time at bat he hit a long one to deep left center, an apparent home run. The crowd went nuts. He did his typical little flip of the bat, then began his strut around the bases. As he rounded second the umpire (standing where the shortstop normally would be) pointed back to second base. (Ground-rule double) Bonds must have had that WTF look on his face, but a fan had apparently interfered with the ball as it had come off the top of the wall.

This was probably the highlight of this ump's career and I am sure the four of them had a great laugh after the game.

But, I was one of the few there who also enjoyed the moment.

Bonds is a creep, pure and simple. A cheater who has prospered. Challenging sports reporters to discuss world issues? WTF? Only problem is most sports reporters are such pussies no one had the balls to stand up to him. I'd like to see some fireballer bounch one off his cranium. If her breaks Aaron's record it should be plastered with asterisks, like *****ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE AID OF STEROIDS**** of maybe, ****HE CHEATED HIS WAY TO THIS RECORD****
