There are two separate issues here. The first can be dispensed with very quickly - Angie is a whack job.

The second is whether or not SPs have the right to select clients based on criteria such as race, ethnicity or religion. Or, to be more specific, do SPs have the right to mention such restrictions in their advertising?

This topic has come up on other boards many times. The consensus is that SPs definitely have the right to select clients on those bases. As for whether or not it's OK to mention such restrictions, it's certainly controversial, but there still seems to be a consensus that it's OK, for two reasons.

First, an SP who goes ahead with an appointment with someone she's not comfortable with for any reason, isn't likely to provide more than very basic, perfunctory, "let's get this over with quickly" service. Second, it would be very embarrassing and humiliating for a member of one of those groups to be told only on meeting an SP, "sorry, I don't do _________s".

Those posters who claim to belong to minority groups are almost unanimous in saying they'd rather know beforehand that they're not welcome, rather than be told in person, or suspect that that poor service wes rendered for that reason.

Sometimes, a potentially ugly truth is better out in the open.

Wow... read much? Like, I don't know...my previous post where I stated that I'm caucasian? I dislike racism, irregardless of the source. It's not something I was brought up with.

I *do* distinguish between humour that makes use of, and pokes fun at, racism...and actually being racist.

As for her right to choose her clients... oh very much so. There are numerous sp's out there with stringent standards as to whom they meet. To me, if you plan on screening clients, that is the way to go... don't make a big fuss over it... don't throw it out there as to who can pass or fail...just screen them and when accepting new clients. Be discrete.

That said, the add doesn't stink of racism... just indiscretion and perhaps prejudice. If she had said that she didn't want to see east indian men because "x" (insert whatever you want), then that would've been racist.

I do feel a woman has right to her discretion. However, eliminating an entire race just seems ignorant…and a bit vain.

One, two, ...maybe several bad experiences with a particular race can be dissuading, but it is not fair to 'paint everyone with the same brush.'
