So, I started getting symptoms on the 7th
Tested negative on a PCR I took on the 13th in the evening
Tested positive on a PCR I took on the 14th in the evening/morning of the 15th technically, just got the results this morning.

The government web site is so confusing! It says i should isolate from 5 days after i start experiencing symptoms...which would mean i didn't need to isolate anymore starting on the 12th. But I tested positive on a test I took on the 15th at 12:30am!

I'm calling them. It's fucking confusing man. I'll keep you all updated. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you find a straight answer anywhere?

I had it a few months ago and was told not to take another test as it would come back positive. They told me after my isolation period that I was good to go. Keep in mind, this was back in September and the rules are always changing. I know this doesn’t really help but just wanted to share what they told me a few months ago. They told me that you could possibly test positive for up to 3 months after having it.
Not medical advice but just my experience.

Dear Charlee,

Thanks for your transparency and honesty. Very refreshing!

I went to the CDC website www.cdc.gov and found this about « Calculating Isolation « (below). My take on your situation (if you are symptom-free) is to isolate until January 20 (a full 5 days after your positive test (as long as your symptoms improve).

I wish you the best!

Calculating Isolation
Day 0 is your first day of symptoms or a positive viral test. Day 1 is the first full day after your symptoms developed or your test specimen was collected. If you have COVID-19 or have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days.
IF YOU
Tested positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms, regardless of vaccination status
Stay home for at least 5 days
Stay home for 5 days and isolate from others in your home.
Wear a well-fitted mask if you must be around others in your home.
Ending isolation if you had symptoms
End isolation after 5 full days if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and your symptoms are improving.
Ending isolation if you did NOT have symptoms
End isolation after at least 5 full daysafter your positive test.
If you were severely ill with COVID-19
You should isolate for at least 10 days. Consult your doctor before ending isolation.

I already have one booking so hurry up if you're truly interested lol
Do you have a telephone line for covid help?
The one in Manitoba is very helpful according to friends who have called it.
If you are confused at all I urge you to call a helpline.

Things are changing so often, I doubt that the government has updated the papers they gave you. If I were you, I would call them again. If you are symptoms free, I was under the impression that you only isolate for 5 days after your positive test, but still need to wear masks for another 5 days.

Do you have rapid antigen tests? I know they are not sensitive, but if you get negative results over several days, you are probably no longer infectious.

Hope you get back in action soon!

I'm just going to follow what the paper says and isolate until the 25th. Better safe than sorry, I *REALLY* don't want to give anyone covid! <3

I wasted 8 hours of my life over 3 days calling different numbers from the CBSA to Health Canada following a short trip to Seattle last month. I was randomly selected to do a same day home test which ended up being unusable (temperature tag in the test kit)so had to get a replacement. Nobody at any phone number could give me a straight answer whether I had to wait to get the replacement (I wasn’t subject to quarantine although some reps thought I was) or could leave my home area as I had intended too for the holidays. The replacement came 5 days after receiving the dud and only on the 4th day was I able to find the email for the department with real authority on handling individual cases: [email protected]
Not easy to find and upon sending my grievance I received an auto reply telling me:

Due to a large volume of incoming queries, the timeliness of our replies will be affected. We apologize in advance for the delay in responding to your questions.

Luckily the replacement test came the next day and I only had to make a brief detour to pick it up before leaving town as planned.
Anywho, to anyone reading this, don’t waste your time calling any of the federal COVID numbers 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah calling did NOT help. Found what I needed in the paper I got at the airport on the 14th. It's all such a mess. Sorry for your trouble too! Sounds so frustrating.

Yeah literally conflicting information from one rep to the next even on the same phone number. Good luck in quar and on the bright side you can now return to Canada for up to 6 months without preflight/on arrival testing OR quarantine.
