what is money? a claim of labor, is sex considered labor? or is it pleasure? if sex is pleasure then girls receive a claim in labor as well as pleasure. Doesn't that really fuck with karma?

The truth is, the government has done studies on this and 99% were abused as kids. Its a natural thing for an abused person to do.

I saw another study, on inmates that had abused women and from photos of different women could pick out the ones that were abused.

Crazy Huh

99%? I call bullshit on that.

Who sourced the research and did they have an agenda I wonder?
Lies, damn lies and statistics...
Actually they said 100% and I would have to say no adgenda it was research done on abuse not on SP. 1 in 4 girls are abused and 1 in 6 boys here in Canada

I am not sure of the percentage breakdown but from what I gather.

Money to live/survive,

Money for drugs,

Pressure from boyfriend/pimp,

Meet people,

Make a whole lot of money in a short time,

Love Sex and might as well capitalize on it,

Pays some extra bills

There may be other reasons but this is what I have come across. I had a SO that did it part time to supplement her income which was at a rough point in 1981. She liked sex so it was not a grief thing for her. It especially helped that I was okay with it.

A *government* study. Of a profession that's not socially acceptable. Yep, I trust that! "99%" of SPs being abused as kids? I highly doubt it. You've got to ask this: What kind of SPs were interviewed? High track, call girl, escort, sugar babies? What races and age brackets?

I think saying 99% of SPs were abused is just perpetuating a horrible stereotype :(
Actually I do believe those stats, but it is because it is estimated that 95% of women (ALL WOMEN) have been sexually assaulted (that doesn't mean raped) in their lifetime, but have not reported to the authorities. The difference with sp's is that when an assault occurs, it is usually more serious, therefore more likely to be reported. The other thing, is that studies of this nature have a morbid fixation on addressing women involved in the sex industry in the effort to affirm social stereotypes.

As for the 1 in 6 males, even less males report sexual assaults, as they feel that their masculinity is at stake if they report.

Yeah but "abused as a child" isn't the same thing as "abused in entire lifetime". If that makes sense.
It totally does, but I do cry bullshit on his claim that the study referred to sp's that were abused as children (as opposed to, "Were at some point in their lives the victim of a sexual assault"). Let's remember that MANY victims of childhood sexual assaults have repressed ANY memory of them happening at all, which would make such a study that the OP has referred to 100% inaccurate and unreliable.

Then IMO their "study" is skewed. I have worked in this business for a long time and I can say in all certainty that I was not abused in any way. Maybe it was 100% of the people they studied, (numbers can be massaged to anyone's advantage), but not 100% of all sex workers in this country were abused. Going by their "study" then, since they claim 100% of sex workers were abused, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys in Canada are sex trade workers? I don't think so. I'd like to see this study you are referring to. (Or a link to it anyway). If it was from a government source, it's most likely propaganda because it's bullshit.

I also know kids grown up now who were abused in some fashion and never entered the sex trade at all for any reason. So that takes away even more from the 100% claim.

As I said the study was about abused kids, and the effects of abuse on our society. It wasnt about SP at all. I guess we can all just stick our heads in the sand and pretend abuse doesnt happen and there are no bad effects.

Your logic eludes me.

Just because 1 in 4 girls are abused it doesnt mean they all become SP. Most dont.

I used to have the study, but there is tons of info online just google sex abuse in Canada.

Happy Reading :)

You need to remember that a sexual assault can be something as minor as an unwelcome grab on the ass or a brush on the breast. In your lifetime, that has NEVER happened to you? Not even from another kid while you were in high school?

Here is a good question for you, a girl of 12 say has an older boyfriend, who wants to have sex with her. She decides she want to have sex as well, so they do it.

She would say she wasnt abused because she wanted to... what do you say? Was she abused?

Well going on those parameters, I guess we'd have to say that 100% of all people in this country have been sexually abused at some point in their life. If those kind of incidents are considered sexual abuse, then I suppose 100% of people in the sex business have been abused, but then so has everyone else......
