I was very disappointed with the last episode, but it had nothing to do with the 'cut to black' ending.
In my opinion, a long running series should go out with something great, a memorable episode, something that really makes you look back and admire the entire series.
Add that to the fact that Chase himself wrote and directed the final episode, and, well, I guess I expected more from him.
Instead we see Meadow turned into a bumbling idiot with dialogue that should be coming out of Paris Hilton's mouth and no parking ability. AJ the moron somehow bagging a hot model babe who doesn't just laugh at how pathetic, stupid and weak he is. Tony treating Paulie like shit, after all that they've gone through, you'd think that he'd have a tiny bit more respect (not saying he shouldn't have pushed etc, but he was meaner than ever to a guy that he recently figured out was totally loyal to him). Junior suddenly ages a year or two in a couple of weeks. Tony's lawyer is more interested in boobs than in dealing with Tony (which is a complete turn around for some reason). Agent Harris suddenly is in bed with some hot chick. And on and on...
At least we weren't subjected to any more of Melfi's horrible delivery of her lines. I mean seriously, she almost ALWAYS got the emphasis wrong in every sentence she said, you could tell she had no idea what her lines were and was reading them word by word from a prompter.
The last episode should have been 'the best' or at least in the 'top 5' or SOMETHING, but instead we got a so/so episode that probably wasn't in the bottom 5, but definately wasn't close to the top 10.
I think Chase was fed up and had no interest in doing a movie or any spin offs so he put out a mediocre final episode leaving people thinking "ok, I'm done with that, NEXT" instead of craving more.
