I can't believe a woman of her age got sucked into it. I can see a senior citizen succumbing to something like that but someone in her 20's!! How can you be so gullible!!!

I would love to find a person who has not got a call from "West Jet" or "Canada Revenue Agency" yet.

Sad, but seriously people, stay up to date.

To some degree I can understand why some new immigrants get hooked by the high pressure phone scams, they are probably fairly convincing to someone who doesn't understand how the bureaucracy works in Canada - in short, it doesn't call you... EVER...

And with seniors there are ways to get them, not necessarily the pressure tactics but rather more sentimental ones - like the "grandma, I've been arrested and need help!" scams.

On the other hand, there's really no excuse for someone born here and English speaking to get nicked. Hell, I got one of those SIN scam calls today. It's laughably bad, and that's saying something after all the South Asian Windows/Microsoft tech scams and the Cantonese/Mandarin calls, etc. "Oh dear..., my SIN was flagged in an investigation and there was 'dirt' found in searches and arrest will happen..." Okay, I'm at home feel free to drop by between 12 and 3.
My point exactly.

I read about this earlier today and wondered how anyone could be so gullible. Especially someone her age. If it was her Albanian grandmother, possibly, but you would have to be living under a rock to not have heard about these scams when you are as young as she is. And why would the police ask her to inrease her credit limit so that she could take out more money ?!?!

I must admit that I wondered if it was all a lie and she gave the money to someone she owed money to (or some other similar reason) and was now hoping for a handout from the public based on her sad story.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
A couple of years ago my elderly aunt got a call from someone claiming to be her grandson.
He was travelling through Europe at the time. I don't know if the scammers knew this or it was just dumb luck on their part.
Anyway she answers and the person goes "Grandma?" She asks if it is David and of course the person says yes.
Tells her a tail of getting in legal trouble and she needs to send him money.
She's told to transfer $10,000.00 to a certain bank account. She doesn't have a computer so she goes off to her bank. Of course in a panic.
Lucky for her she has a sharp bank employee who immediately recognizes the scam and does not allow her to do the transfer.
It's sad when these scumbags prey on vulnerable old people.
