Occurred to me, watching Lulay on the bench with his tablet. Once Jennings is secure in his role & there's a secure back up in place, Coach Brillo goes back to the GM's office & Lulay steps in as the next great CFL player-to-coach story? If Kent Austin, Henry Burris, Mike Clemens, Mike Reilly, can do it...

Not too quick Erica!

Lulay is suddenly the starter. Jennings hurt on the Lions first play of the game....shoulder.
Some rust initially, which is understandable, but he's doing ok so far.
They can't afford Jennings out for an extended period though.

Sadly, no one probably gives a shit :(

It's true. I sometimes wish I lived in a true CFL city (which is to say, ANY of the other CFL cities!) Last night, in Edmonton, they set a new CFL record (AGAIN!!) for the biggest 50/50 draw. It had been building since the home opener. Going into last night's game it was at $80k. Winning ticket at last night's game? $434k!!! That's a sold out game.

My very first Lions game I taught myself the roar you lions roar song and sang it throughout the game (still know it word for word lol)....must have pissed off everyone lol, it was a, game with Joe Capp and Willie fleming (1964), I went to lions games off and on since.....Ron Lancaster was one of the best quarterbacks ever but sucked as a coach, like wayne gretzky did in the nhl......its a coin toss in my opinion regarding Lulay as a coach.....what i do believe though if he got the chance he would be well respected throughout the league for the way he has accepted his position on the team and remained a positive influence.....watching the game tonight?...you see his magic is still in tact.....he has earned the opportunity to coach this team. BTW that was the year Angelo Mosca cheap shotted Willie and cost him his career, years later Joe capp was put on the same stage as Angelo...have a look what happened...bad feelings lasted a life time

I'm well aware...one of the many casualties of my childhood was my dad's BC Lions Team bomber jacket. He played with By Bailey, he played with Joe Capp, he played with Willie Fleming: he roomed with Emery Barnes on the road. When he played for the Lions, Bobby Ackles was the Assistant Equipment Manager....I was born to bleed orange & black! I'll accompany you to a game anytime!

A CFL football thread on perb, gotta love it! I too am a die-hard Lions fan from way back and I had an enjoyable discussion with you about your CFL roots Miss Erica when you were in Nanaimo recently. To follow up on your original post, I think that Lulay could make a good head coach one day a la Dave Dickensen, but he would probably have to pay his dues as QB coach and OC first. Go Lions!
Oh I remember it well. It was a pretty good game in Hamiliton tonight, and you really have to love a 3-1 start.

Baby steps first:

Quarterback or Receiver's Coach

Assistant Coach

Offensive Co-ordinator

Then once showing he can also work with the Defensive and Special teams coaches he should be then considered Head Coach material.

Bit early to be down on Wally isn't it?

Seems they are being pretty dominant in this extended Eastern trip!

Wally world is gonna be with us for.... awhile.
Lulay is nowhere close to hanging up the cleats and picking up a clipboard, he's still gettin it done on the field
Anyone who has had shoulder surgery would know it takes a LONG time to rehab.
As of July 2017, he's back.

C'mon Ms. E- I know you know better- it's Joe Kapp with a "K". Maybe you were just being polite to the Officeguy for his little mistake?

Thanks Erica. Interesting to hear about your background with the BC Lions. I was a big fan of Joe Kapp, both with BC and with the Vikings.

Given Joe played for BC from 1961-66, I'm struggling to believe that was more than 50 years ago! Feels like yesterday.

He has tried numerous times to step away after promoting from within to Head Coach. He ended up having to fire Benevides.

I think in order for him to step down, it will take a head coach or bonafide winning assistant coach who can actually take over and keep winning.

Lulay seems like a decent guy on camera with a great attitude. Whether that equates to running the whole show himself is probably premature.

Joe's first year was my dad's last! (Yes, before I was born, so I only got to watch him coach.
