So I just got home from watching Dunkirk....and WOW! Nolan along with Hans Zimmer did it again. To those of you whom arn't familiar with the title, I won't spoil the movie, but I will say had "Operation Dynamo" not been a success like it was historically, England would have fallen to Germany in WWII. This event was a critical point in WWII in which many civilians rallied to help bring home 400,000 Allied troops.

I literally cried when I saw the Canadian Ensign on some of the "Little Ships of Dunkirk." Goes to show that during that time, were always alongside Britain.

I have a movie date tomorrow to see it.

I really enjoyed it. A bit confusing at first stepping through the various segments of the plot. Once you get a feel for the direction, it's a great story line.

We sat in those AXD seats and got twisted and bumped around a fair bit. Sort of a gimmick but once it turned to follow a Spitfire's path upwards; I gained an appreciation of what they are doing technology wise.

Maybe the hype led me to expect too much, but I was really disappointed. It's good, but not great.

Not a single character worth caring about. Each death was no different from any other anonymous death.

I don't understand hiring the world's best actor and hiding him behind a mask and mumbling rote dialogue the whole movie.

The two and three views of the same action added nothing, and was confusing until you figure it out. I know it's hard to work around weather, but the continuity in scenes was a disaster. From angle to angle it could be sunny, cloudy or stormy, which further confused seeing the same action repeated from different viewpoints.

The destruction of Dunkirk town and the masses of men simply wasn't represented at all. They repeatedly mention 400,00 men, but we never see more than maybe 200-300 on the beach standing around. In fact, the beach and town were overfowing with men and equipment and there was constant strafing and shelling, explosions from mines and defensive positions.

The Spitfire was a great plane, and they can coast a long way, but they cannot maneouver after running out of fuel.

Finally - the evacuation lasted a week, but as portrayed in the movie, it made it seem like two days and one night.

It wasn't a documentary and did not pretend to be. Certainly there were historical flaws, but it was a well done war movie and I was entertained for 2 hours. I would recommend to others that like a good war movie.

Check your closet..:)
Found it kinda boring. Airial combat was ok.
All pilots carried a sdide arm. He could have shot the cockpit glass.
Glad he was rescued. Was getting tired of watching people drowning by that point.

I might recommend it once its free on netflix.

Subtitles could have helped with the heavy accents. :) Especially that scene with the random Dutchman and the abandoned boat. What was the reason he came back to the boat? I couldn't understand anything he or the British were saying in that scene. Incidentally, my grandfather was in the Dutch army at about that time. He was captured, put in an enclosed schoolyard in Amsterdam with other soldiers and barbed wire was placed at the top of the walls. He scaled the wall, jumped over, and ran off. Some guy in Amsterdam gave him civilian clothes. The Dutch soldiers were soon paroled by the Germans so he really didn't have to do that.

I liked it a lot. I left the movie feeling like I should have gotten a prescription for anxiety pills before going.
