My guess is that the stand for freedom of expression is powered by the fact that doing anything else will result in going out of business. With another form of advertising eliminated, the thin margins in printed media are only getting slimmer.

So maybe the first charges under C-36 will be laid against the print media and we'll be off to the SCC again, quicker then anticipated.

Originally saw this on TERB, from the section of the DoJ Technical Paper:Bill C-36 "b) Offences: Purchasers and Third Parties"
http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/other-autre/protect/p1.html#edn31
The following activities have been found to constitute a sexual service or an act of prostitution, if provided in return for some form of consideration: lap-dancing, which involves sitting in the client’s lap and simulating sexual intercourse;[31] masturbation of a client in the context of a massage parlour, whether or not the client climaxes;[32] and, sado-masochistic activities, provided that the acts can be considered to be sexually stimulating/gratifying.[33] However, jurisprudence is clear that neither acts related to the production of pornography,[34] nor stripping[35] meet the test. In most cases, physical contact, or sexual interaction, between the person providing the service and the person receiving it is required; however, acts for which consideration is provided that take place in a private room in a club and that are sexual in nature, but do not involve physical contact between the “client” and “performer”, such as self-masturbation, have been found to constitute prostitution.[36]
Oh Nooooo :( , Is this the death of the strip club, the ladies might have to find regular employment and also byebye to all the good clubs in Quebec and Ontario. That new club Gallery Show Lounge is going have a short life.
Given the uncertainty of what this might mean for dances going forward after today, I made a brief afternoon trip to the 5 yesterday. Luckily, a couple of my long time favourite VIPs were around and available to go for dances. From what one of them was telling me, they are definitely wary of the new legislation. Some minor changes have already been implemented to make sure certain boundaries are not being crossed in the VIP area and there may be more coming. But for now, she tells me, the club will still be allowing the ladies to do lapdances.

i

unfortunately, by then i'll likely be pushing up daisies instead of firing out cum-shots, so i've pretty much resigned myself to being a criminal for the last years of my life
If you live in Vancouver, which you probably do: you won't be a criminal for the rest of your days by VPD standards, because the VPD aren't planning on enforcing this unconstitutional legislation.

So, if you commit a crime but you don't get caught, then you're not a criminal? Just when vcc was thinking he was gonna be a smooth criminal ;) :D

The way it was is the way it will be again..Pay sites

When I first started looking at escorts on line. 13 yrs ago ..There were many pay sites that girls advertised on..and you had to be a payed member to view their stats and exclusive pictures.. That idea has continued through the years. But most girls advertised through free access Web sites or adds on boards.. craigslist..erslist .backpage and others.. With some still having special member sections on their Web sits.. but not that popular..

Now that seem to be the best and maybe only way to actually see what girls are offering and talking shop..by being a member of a payed site.. then there is a obvious choise made by both parties.. and they can screen out some snoops....but not all.

Weather this helps get around some aspects of bill 36 I am not sure
Only time will tell

Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, and Langley are policed by the RCMP, so take caution! I haven't heard New Westminster police force's take on C-36 though. Remember Richmond (Asian micros) is always a target for a raid once per year.

If Richmond RCMP are targeting a micro or two only once a year, then it's likely just a superficial demonstration that "they are doing their job."

It would be handy, though, if all LE forces in the Lower Mainland would make their intent towards the new law known.
It's hard to imagine LE spending all those resources for themselves, prosecutors, courtrooms & judges just to trouble consenting adults with a $500 fine.
Surely they feel they have much bigger criminal situations to deal with.

I think the first big public thing the cops are gonna do is go after the Richmond MP's. Make it a big sting / public raid with the cameras rolling and the customers handcuffed coming out in their underwear. Then they'll drop the words "sex trafficking" too, just to stir up a bigger shit storm. All done just before Christmas just to spread the misery. I wouldn't put it past them.

I remember the last time a Richmond micro was raided. The story was all over Global/CTV/etc. The working girls were still in uniform handcuffed sitting on the bed while being interviewed by latex gloved investigators. The cameras panned to the clear plastic garbage bags of used tissues sitting on the balcony. All the tissues, condoms, lube, etc on the nightstand.

The previous year was the news of that private house housing a micro in Richmond where interviewed neighbours talked about the expensive import cars that would park in the driveway and streets at all times of the night.

The biggest target here in Alberta may be agencies and the other Alberta Review board. Hopefully our friends on the other review board will learn how to keep a lower profile. In the past they've gotten too involved in policing the community and public events and parties.

Fred is much smarter and sticks to running his website. PERB never gets involved and caught up in people's lives off the boards. The other Alberta board is way too overly involved in people's private affairs. I can't imagine that will be a good idea under the new laws.

Hopefully they'll be smarter going forward.

am i just retarded here? the bill allows for advertising, but purchasing is illegal. so wtf is the point to allow advertising?
sorry, rant over.
It's pretty twisted. The independent ladies can advertise , but the advertising media and websites are prohibitied from running the ads and will be charged if they run the ads.

The rules for posting ads on escort sites have been modified greatly in cases where they were not already very restricted as to wording and photos so the ladies will still be advertising on the same sites they always have, but just not as descriptive as to rates and services. Men will now have to do a bit more homework to wade through all the ladies posting as massage therapists in essence (much as they have been required to do on the American sites for many years).

Men and women fought for years so women could have the right to control what they did with their bodies re: abortion.

Now, a group of zealots, prudes, evangelicals and downright crazies have taken us back in time where grown men and women - sane, rational, educated, non-addicted, un-coerced adults, are deemed too inferior to make decisions for themselves on what they can do with their bodies and how they want to earn a living.

Ignoring logic, evidence, information from people directly involved in the industry and bona fide statistics, the mental midgets and Christian fanatics in the Harper/McKay Party ploughed forward with legislation they knew was illegal and probably immoral in placing sex workers at increased danger.

The Harper government has chosen to interfere with the workings of Parliament (remember proroguing?), abuse veterans, lose almost every Supreme Court case, ignore and underfund scientists, interfere with Right To Die legislation, spend recklessly in Conservative-only ridings, abuse democracy with robocalls and spend more time vindictively attacking enemies than running government.

What a dismal group of trained seals. Harper will go down as the worst PM since Mulroney, and that's saying something.

Discretion is Key under the new Laws:

Learning to be discrete is going to be very important under C-36

- Don't use email or text or Private Message systems to discuss services
- Don't have phone conversations anywhere where someone may overhear you in public space
- Don't over share too many personal details about yourself
- Keep intimate details out of reviews
- Don't attend parties and events (Website Get-together's)
- Don't share details about an SP's incall location. Only the SP should be disclosing that info to verified customers.
- Don't share graphic details about sessions or brag about sessions via PM system.
- Don't get overly involved with SP's private affairs or involve yourself in disputes between multiple SP's
- Do your homework and make sure the lady you're going to contact for a rendezvous is a legitimate SP
- Never give out drivers licesnes, real names, or any personal info for validation. It's just a bad idea under the new laws
- Use SP referrals as your means of verifying that you are a legit client
- Don't brag about the hobby to close friends. The best kept secrets are the one's you don't tell anyone
- Don't get too emotionally involved with an SP. Enjoy the fantasy and go back to your real life afterwards.

Being discreet is a survival skill going forward. Loose lips skink ships and will make it easy for you to get caught.

Nice advise, Alabama Blaze, a lot of common sense, but my opinion about loose lips differ from yours.

I think they are great for nice kissing, and fantastic for memorable blow jobs, ------ but not before I check all her closets for weirdoes --- or worse,--- like a guy with a badge, night stick, taser gun and loaded revolver hiding behind a full length coat.-------- He could really kill the mood.
