Last week I was at the mall. Was hungry, so I ordered some fast food.

A man in his 30's, serving me was wearing a gold chain at least 1/4 inch in thickness under a golf shirt. Most of the chain was hidden, but you could see it on the side of his neck.

So my mind starts wondering if he is the owner cause he is wearing a gold chain.

What I thought was out of place was fast food place in a mall and a man serving food wearing a gold chain.

Any thoughts...

It's pretty popular due to all of these "famous" rappers covered in them. Our son and a bunch of his friends, mostly very good kids in their late teens to early 20's, order the cheap crappy chains from China so they can appear to have money like their hero rappers. Fake shoes like Kanyes, fake gold chains, fake watches, you name it. It's sad to see them idolizing these douchebags but not much we can do other than teaching them what we can about being a decent human...

Or, they still live at home and don't have to pay for school or bills. And then they work full time at fast food and end up getting a lot of disposable cash. So they splurge and buy a gold chain or an expensive pair of jeans so they can be like their idols. Its not unheard of.

you would be surprised

some broker finical adviser,
said quite often people flashing a lot of bling, are broke, or in debt up to there eyeballs.

I live in a poorer part of town, but you wouldn't know it by the bmw's and the benz's and the like,
not me,
I remember some kids on a bus, well a young couple, with a baby, they had like I dunno a thousand dollars worth of clothes on,
me my uniform bob on the front, sleppping to work or rather home, they were like twenty something but, they didn't have money for diapers,,

its not so much what you have its the look,
most people wearing the expensive jerserys or a lot of them any way, don't have two nickel's between them
its funny some co worker made fun at some rusted car in our parking lot, I said you never know,
like the broker who said the guy coming in with a rusted out truck, he is the guy with money,
but honestly you never no by bling or the car, how much money a person has,

A neighbour owns several food franchises and regularly works at all of them.
Some franchisers require their franchisee to do that.

I can attest to this. I grew up in a modest house, Dad was the sole breadwinner while my brothers and I were young. Being the son of parents who lived through the depression, my dad firmly believed "live within your means." He didn't make huge money as a self taught mechanic. No papers as he was a high school drop out who knocked up his girlfriend. (that was me, thankfully they didn't choose abortion). Well fifty something years later, my parents still live in the same modest house, he doesn't own a suit but prefers his sweat pants. He's retired now and owns a portfolio worth over 1.2 million.

Totally agree. Seems like a materialistic world these days where people are concerned with the clothes they wear, cars they drive, etc. Its fine if you can afford it but people can not being going into debt to put on a fake front.

When I was younger I was materialistic and needed to wear the fancy clothes amd such, but as I grew older I guess I got wiser.

Also regarding the jewlery it might be a cultural thing of sorts. Know many eastern european and asian countries to wear bling.

I'm a high school drop out.....I skin my knuckles on a weekly basis, and a dollar comes hard to me.
Yet the people I pay to work for me have University educations, and tell me they wish they could afford what I have.
They show up in their fancy cars, and clothes.....I wear worn out jeans, and don't own a single piece of jewelry.
They ride my good horses chasing my stock around the mountains I happen to own, and live in one of my three log houses....they say how fortunate I am , to have this life they envy so much.

It's funny how lucky I became, the harder I worked.

you never know as well.
a couple living the high life,
big fancy restaurants, expensive vacations swimming pool in the house,
the whole bit, everything,

and it all comes to a screeching halt when the cops come knocking on the door.
like half a dozen charges against them from money laundering to securities fraud.

a true story, supposedly over two million dollars went missing.
sad I had met them briefly

but you never know, what someone is worth,
or even how they got it.
people like to brag exaggerate flash there bling,

maybe its all stolen

same, I really don't...at all...I absolutely detest wearing jewellery, fake or real doesn't matter, I hate adorning myself with ornaments, I am not a christmas tree for gods sakes. I don't get how you people do it...day after day...even while you sleep!

When I was younger I was materialistic and needed to wear the fancy clothes amd such, but as I grew older I guess I got wiser.
same here, highschool pressure and whatnot...nowdays I wear my mom's and sister's hand me downs, and I shop at walmart or superstore for my clothes...joe fresh has some really nice comfortable stuff....I'm leaving the age 20's next month so now I have an excuse to wear granny clothes in public "I'm old now" haha! I even wear mom shoes. I have no desire at all for any kind of fashion or trend or makeup etc. I have literally become a grandma, if you count my snails having babies then I really am a grandma :D Honestly there is more to life than clothing and handbags and high heels...I'd rather spend my time with my pets and other animals, and spoiling them, and on my crafting, or lounging on the computer...and lurking on perb :D

Jewelry is a sign of status. To show ones wealth.

So what are the reason to wear something so valuable at work? Especially at a fast food place.

Remember this is at a mall.... at a food court. Its always warm at a food court.....
